The beach is great, often crowded, but the gem is the walk along the cliffs to the east. After a short climb, you can walk a few hundred yards or 2 miles along a spectacular coastline. Every 100 yards, the views change. Just down from Poipu, it's worth the effort.

Loved this beach. Had good snorkeling despite having a rough entry & exit. Saw a very large green sea turtle who came right up to me. Approx 300-400 lbs. Visibility is not great but you will likely be the only person snorkeling there which makes it very peaceful.

Has the cliff where people jump and that's fun to watch. The Hyatt looks amazing and the beach is nice with some big waves. Rocks though so wear water shoes.

Best luck seeing humpback whales in the Poipu area here. The walk up to the bluff from here gives a great view. Not as kid-friendly as Poipu Beach park.

One of the most beautiful beaches on Kauai and the large cliff is awesome to watch jumpers. Went with my boys, waves were outrageous and gorgeous to see, amazing sunset, can be dangerous if in too deep, undertow was very strong. Lots of surfers...

We visited several beaches and this was one of our favorite public beaches. Wasn't overcrowded and had great waves for the kids to play in and boogie board. It's also has the beautiful Grand Hyatt right behind it which isn't hard to look at.

I love Shipwreck Beach! The waves are so different than just a mile north, rugged and rough. Fun to watch.

You gotta be real careful when you do it, but this is a real fun place to do some afternoon skinny dipping when the tourists aren't around.

Big waves which dump on the beach, with significant long shore drift and rip current. NOT a beach for young children. However, a great place to watch surfers, boogie boarders and cliff jumpers.

Very nice hiking area along the cliffs of Poipu Beach area. Would not recommend taking young children as some areas have steep drop-offs. Great area to sight turtles playing in the surf. Poipu Beach Golf Course runs along part of the trail. Very scenic area.
