NTBG’s McBryde Garden is located on the south shore of Kauai in the picturesque Lawai Valley. Tours run daily and include a ride from the Visitors Center in Poipu along a scenic coastal route and continue along the valley rim on a former sugarcane train railbed. Visitors disembark on the valley floor to explore this outstanding garden, known for its diverse collection of tropical plants. McBryde, NTBG’s flagship garden, is home to the world’s largest collection of native Hawaiian flora, many endangered or having gone extinct in the wild. It is a “botanical ark”, filled with palms, flowering trees, ornamental flowers, and unusual plants from the tropical world.National Tropical Botanical Garden is a nonprofit institution, dedicated to saving and studying tropical plants.

My wife and I spent four hours in the McBryde Gardens this week. In addition to being amazed by its beauty, we had the benefit of an outstanding tour guide. If you go, try and find Neil. Neil is a volunteer at the garden who...More

We spent almost four hours walking around these gardens, and it was absolutely beautiful. I especially recommend the Spice of Life trail. We even saw some birds that we hadn't seen on other parts of the island, including a rare Koloa duck! Make sure you...More

Made the mistake of thinking you can be spontaneous and just show up. They were closed for two days but allowed you to walk the grounds of parking area. Also, the gardens are actually about 4 miles away so when you reserve you are shuttled....More

We popped in during some major rain to find an activity to do. We donned our raincoats and hopped on the shuttle. While the views over were limited, the rain slowed some and we loved tromping around the gardens. We pretty much had the place...More

This is much more than a lot of beautiful and unusual plant life, although there is more of that than you could imagine. The various, easy trails explore all kinds of stories about the development of plant life over millions of years, the crop plants...More

Let me start off by saying, we are a family of four with two kids age 7 and 11. We are not necessarily plant lovers or normally give a hoot about botanical gardens, but this has changed our minds! We chose to visit the self...More

Beautiful garden with lovely grounds and easy to walk. The store is a super place to purchase seeds and souvenirs for your family and friends that enjoy plants.

Part of the Allerton gardens but I couldn’t tell the difference or when one ended and the other began. Regardless it is a great place for a guided tour and a visit to a small but pleasant waterfall.

Aloha Cindy - We do not have any Rainbow Eucalyptus tress in the McBryde Garden, but we do have a few at the South Shore Visitors Center. They are such a beautiful tree!
