NTBG’s McBryde Garden is located on the south shore of Kauai in the picturesque Lawai Valley. Tours run daily and include a ride from the Visitors Center in Poipu along a scenic coastal route and continue along the valley rim on a former sugarcane train railbed. Visitors disembark on the valley floor to explore this outstanding garden, known for its diverse collection of tropical plants. McBryde, NTBG’s flagship garden, is home to the world’s largest collection of native Hawaiian flora, many endangered or having gone extinct in the wild. It is a “botanical ark”, filled with palms, flowering trees, ornamental flowers, and unusual plants from the tropical world.National Tropical Botanical Garden is a nonprofit institution, dedicated to saving and studying tropical plants.

It is a beautiful garden, unfortunately it was raining when I went there. They have a really interesting trees and some nice little native cabins that are really nice to take pictures. On the way you can see an amazing beach down the hill. Do not forgot the repellent. Theres a lot of little mosquitos.

My wife and I are in our 70's and enjoyed a great morning at McBryde Gardens doing the self guided tour. We packed a lunch to enjoy along the way and spent 3 hours walking through the displays. We choose the morning hours to avoid the heat and crowds, we were the only ones on the first bus out so... More

We took the self guided walking tour through this garden and it took us around 1.5 hours to see each feature. There were "hands on" activities, such as standing under a "mister" in a moss covered tunnel. The gardens are beautiful and it's well worth the price to go. I highly recommend this activity to any plant lover and/or photographer.

We took the McBryde/Allerton combination tour that visited a portion of each garden and the greenhouses/development center. The tour is a bit spendy ($60/each) so we were hopeful for a good experience. Our guide, Sam, was the best! He has a long history with the gardens and is native Hawaiian, so he shared a great deal of information. The most... More

This is the self guided tour and is less expensive than the Allerton tour. We take this tour everytime we are on Kauai and we spend the entire day. We take the earliest tour and bring our cameras, food, bug repellant and walk and wonder all day. Enough of each species are labeled that you can really learn a lot.... More

We had read about this garden and debated if we would go or not, because the entrance money isn't cheap; $30. But we did it and it was totally worth it. It is put in sections; a domestic plant section, a palm-tree section etc.. There are so many odd trees and plants and is is laid out in a big... More

I was surprised that there were as few flowers in the actual garden. The garden consists of trails through various type of gardens, with mostly trees. It is more of a park like setting, but if you are looking for lots of Hawaiian flowers or things to take pictures of, this is not the place. There were better flowers at... More

We enjoyed this garden very much. It is a self guided tour so you can spend as much or as little time as you want. There are 5 trails/gardens with different themes. These include native plants, those brought by canoe with the Polynesian voyagers, a palm trail, spice of life and biodiversity trail. The only trail that is a little... More

We visited the gardens yesterday and really enjoyed our visit. The plants are so beautiful and it is so good to see such exotic plants, trees and orchids. It was so peaceful just walking round the gardens. You need to be interested in plants to visit otherwise it will to be for you. Our driver David was great and explained... More

Honestly, it was a toss-up between this one and the Allerton Gardens. I wish that I could have visited both now so I could offer a comparison. I almost wonder if having a tour guide could have helped as well. The problem was that for what I paid for, I went in with high expectations only to find it wasn't... More
