Description:

Princeville Botanical Gardens is a family owned and operated garden...

Princeville Botanical Gardens is a family owned and operated garden paradise located in the Princeville area on the magnificent north shore of Kauai. The Robertson Family, with the help of their close gardening friend, Michael, have transformed their 8-acre retirement home into a breathtaking garden with dramatic landscaping in two steep valleys. The Robertsons grow a small cacao (chocolate) grove and part of every tour is a chocolate tasting and lesson on how chocolate is made. Longer tours include samples of delicious tropical fruits. The fun, educational tours of the garden include ethnobotanical and medicinal uses of plants, stories and information about native Hawaiian and "canoe" plants, and much more about a diverse collection of species from around the world. RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED. Visitors can experience the garden on pre-scheduled tours on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Tours are not recommended for children under 6 years. We strongly recommend good walking shoes. Please be sure to call us before visiting. Thank you!

Easy to get to from Princeville, easy to make reservations online, well worth the ticket price for the tour. This Garden is the work of people who love plants, gardening, colour and art! The guide we had (Brad) was super in bringing us through the gardens at a leisurely pace such that we had time to absorb the beauty of... More

Two for one here. First a tour of a world class botanical garden. Second an education in cacao into chocolate. The guides are so impressive in their knowledge. Don't miss this.

Wonderful garden and tour guide. Harold was fabulous! We learned so much and enjoyed the morning more than we expected! A must do if you are looking to know more about the island and plants living there. I'd recommend it to anyone.

My husband, who does not usu enjoy these types of things, was surprised at how much he liked the tour. Harold, our tour guide, was fantastic; so knowledgeable and his love and enthusiasm of the gardens was infectious. Enjoyed chocolate tasting, fresh fruits and honey taste from their hive. There was so much to see and take in. may not be around... More

Got there one half hour before closing time so only saw the small teaser garden. Watched a cat and some chickens that were highly entertaining after looking at the lush flowers.

It was a 5 minute drive to an absolutely fabulous showcase private garden. The 3 hour tour was well worth it. As we walked with the knowledgable tour guide, we were treated to various fruits grown there. We learned a lot about native plants. There were several endangered species growing there, in fact several are teetering on extinction. Oh the... More

Please note that reservations are required. Please visit Garden’s website to check the schedule for the day you would like to visit this magnificent site. There are two docents, so when the group is over 20, it is subdivided into two groups. Please remember to take good hiking shoes, as you will leisurely meander through the garden for over 2... More

Might be the best thing we did while in Kauai. Educational and interesting. The grounds make you feel like you are in the rainforests you see in the movies. We loved learning about the different types of chocolate and getting to taste them all.

What a great time - though a little pricey ($70 per person) - it is a small private operation - amazing grounds with a diversity of plants and wonderful guides who give you a very interactive, educational and personalized tour.
