Quite the pot-holed road!

Hard to tell what I'm thinking about this one, right? I would say that it is such a pretty beach and there is hardly anyone there that maybe it is worth the drive. The reason hardly anyone else is at this beach is because the road out to the beach is terrible. I cannot emphasize enough how bad the bumpy... More

Be prepared for a long and bumpy drive getting there. That in itself is an adventure (around 45 minutes one way). When you get to the beach, it's nice, but there are no facilities. We saw many types of shells that we didn't see at the other beaches we went to. (Don't take them though.)

Only go when there hasn't been heavy rains that washed out the dirt road in the past. Always check conditions before going! Don't go alone in the water or go out too far, the waves can strong. No lifeguard on duty. Bring your own water, only unmaintained restroom/changing area available. Be prepared for a good hike over the dunes, but... More

This is an outstanding beach on the far northwestern end of the road of Kaua'i. It's a state park with limited facilities on the dry leeward side of the island. While everything about the beach is great (sand, water, some reasonably swimming locations), to get here you travel about 4 miles off the end of the pavement. I wouldn't say... More

Polihate State Park is a definite must see, especially to catch the evening sun and walk the miles of sandy beach. Absolutely amazing to catch the setting sun with a good friend.

This beach is by far one of the most beautiful beaches we have ever seen. It is not easy to get there as the road is laden with mud, bumps and potholes. The car rental contract says you are not covered if you drive in there; thus a 4 wheel drive vehicle would be recommended. Taking it very slow, it... More

I love Polihale, it's extremely unique and offers the best sunsets on Kauai. A bit out of the way on a rougher road, but its a great place. I don't normally camp, but I make an exception to camp here.

The road to get there is long and not very well kept, however, it is a worthwhile drive to see this beach. The surf is much to dangerous for swimming, but sunbathers would love to lounge here. It is also an ideal place for a long beach walk and the perfect place to watch the sun going down. We absolutely... More

This is a place you have to visit when on Kauai. In case we would have had an additional day on the island we would have had spend it here. This was the best beach we've seen on Oahu, Kauai, Big island and Maui.

This beach is amazing! Huge, private and if it is raining non stop for days in Kauai you still have no rain and sunshine in this beach :) Arizona of Kauai :) It is bad road to get there though as it is 6km off road. So best to have 4wheel drive. Not very good for swimming though as harsh... More
