A pretty spectacular sight. Well worth the drive & if you are capable, some trail hiking. We saw more of the canyon by taking a helicopter trip into the canyon a few days later. It was amazing & if you get the chance, well worth the money. Better yet, take a Mauna Loa Helicopter with the doors off! Exhilarating &... More

Some people are disappointed when they can't see the whole canyon or the mountain tops. We were lucky and went in the morning (9-10am-ish)- and were able to see EXCELLENT views all the way to the top. There are several places to pull off and look out and take pictures. On our way back down we did notice that the... More

It's a long drive up the canyon road, but it is very pretty, and the various lookouts along the way offer a variety of fantastic views. Well worth the drive!

We had a day to just drive around and see things, and this was one that we are so glad we took time for. It's incredible how far down this canyon goes and the different formations etc. Just go. You'll be glad you did.

My wife and I visited this gorgeous place last fall. On our first day in Kauai we took a helicopter ride over the island and seeing the Waimea canyon rise into view was breathtaking. The colors and variations in plant life were astounding. To see it the following day on foot was just as spectacular. We drove up through Waimea... More

We spent the day in the Waimea Canyon. We drove up Waimea Canyon Drive and down Kokee Road. The Canyon drive is a better and more scenic route. We stopped at all the formal scenic overlooks and several of the informal ones. Each offers it on version of the valley and each time the light changes the view changes. We... More

A small version of the Grand Canyon with lush tropical views. Lots of places to turn off for viewing. Places with picnic tables to stop and enjoy a lunch. But only one restaurant for dining. Hiking is available but should have sturdy hiking shoes and even hiking poles. Prepare to get muddy as in February all trails are damp.

Every island in the Hawaiian chain has unique characteristics that set it apart from the others. The Waimea Canyon is one of the places that makes Kauai different from all the rest - and in fact from just about any other island in the world. Among the great things about the Canyon: itʻs easy to get to; itʻs free; itʻs... More

It's tough to describe this place, you just have to see it yourself. It's definitely worth seeing if you're on Kauai!

We went on a day that the whole island was on a flash flood warning. We when got to Waimea Canyon Look Out you could see a little bit of the canyon but when we got past the first look out all the other ones were just whited out with clouds and rain, you couldn't see anything. When we go... More
