Today, March 4, 2017, we successfully hiked the entire Munro trail. We started at the trailhead for the Koloiki trail, which is located to the right of the Lodge at Koele (and to the left of the closed, golf shop). The Koloiki trail is well marked with green signs. At the green sign #8, the trail joins the Munro trail.... More

Initially planned to only do Koloiki Trail but weather was great and that hike was quicker than expected, so continued up Munro Trail to reach Mount Lana`ihale. Make sure you have enough water and be prepared for ankle deep mud pits, at least, if it has been raining somewhat recently. Beautiful views along the road most of the way.

The Munro trail is a great way to catch a view of the entire Island and views of the channel , Maui and Molokai . On a clear day , you can get excellent views of the Big Islands 2 great mountain tops, Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea . If adventurous enough , go up before sunrise and catch a... More

Munro Trail goes up the ridge behind Lanai City. Hikers and people who rent Jeeps try it just for something to do. That's not a good idea. It rains up there. The dirt road gets incredibly muddy. There are 1000 foot drop offs. You don't need it.

I contacted a local guide to take us on a tour for the day including the Munro trail via 4 wheel drive Jeep. It was very very cool. You will see amazing images of Lanai as well as Maui across the channel along the way as it meanders through the volcanic ridge / mountain. The pine trees along the way... More

Fantastic 360 degree views at the end of this very moderate trail. The views of Maui and Molakai are great, and the added bonus is the variety of forests we walked through on the way up.

This hike was a refreshing change from the sunny dry parts of the island of Lana'i. Beautiful landscape and vista views. The lush forest with many different flora and fauna is not to be missed. Others have said that it is a long hike, I beg to differ. The 5 miles felt like 3 miles with all the tall trees... More

Hiked up most of the trail to the summit. A gorgeous view and burned some calories! Replenished them at the Four Seasons afterwards.

Be sure to get a map or some guidance before setting out across the Munro Trail. One can get a little twisted around up there but it is so worth your time. You can see two or three other islands, depending on the cloud factor, and the view is spectacular. I especially love this place.

Really wanted to see this but it was closed to jeep traffic. Much too long for a hike, and it was rainy. I was told it was being redone and should be reopened to jeeps but date unknown. Currently no guard rails and there are slipouts above steep canyon walls.
