I visited the crater for sunrise and it was an awe-inspiring experience! Standing at close to 10,000 ft, it was a magical experience to see the sun rise over the clouds and crater. Simply breathtaking - words cannot describe - you have to see it with your own eyes! Following the sunrise, the views over the island are also spectacular!... More

Got up at 0300 to catch the 0545 sunrise. Give yourself tons of extra time. We JUST made it on time and we left the house from Kihei at 0400. There is a huge line of up cars when you get there and parking is a bit of a mess. There is parking attendant who will tell you exactly where... More

We have been many places and seen many things but this is an experience you will never forget. You get up around 2:30 AM and they take you to the top of the mountain. You stand there and witness the most beautiful sun rise you will ever see, greeted by native Hawaiians blowing the traditional shells.

It was a beautiful drive there. Great views of the crater. Lots of hiking trails. Interesting flower that lives there. Very interesting place to see.

The Haleakala Crater section of the park involves a drive up the volcano from sea level to 10,000 feet in about 20 miles, so the roads are steep and winding. The scenery changes as you ascend from lush tropical plants to the silverswords on the summit. We watched the sunrise on one morning - bring warm clothes. On our return... More

The National Park encompasses both the fabulous Summit (10023 feet) and the Kupahulu Visitor Center. Save your receipt if you plan on making this a two day excursion. We went up the the summit for the sunset. The road is long, has sharp pinpoint turns (switchbacks), and very few guardrails. If you get car sick take your Dramamine before leaving.... More

The guide was great with good experience. And in addition he has been driving around for 20 years. the volcano is great with many rainbow due to the mist. temperature goes as low as 3 degree, still bearable with winds but if winds come it then u will be shivering.

This is a must-do. The drive isn't too daunting, and the result is worth it. The views are surreal... Wear something warm, you are at 10,000 feet at the summit. Don't let seeing the peak surrounded by clouds deter you. You drive through those, and the peak is above the clouds.

The world's largest dormant volcano. The view from the top is over 10000ft or 3000m. At the summit, it is quite cool. We were there in May and the temperature was 15C and the wind was strong. Be sure to bring a warm jacket. On the road up the summit, the scenery was breath-taking and it worth the while to drive... More

As we drove through the mist and clouds up to the top as we went through the pay station the ranger said that he told the car ahead of us it may not be much of a sunset. However, 15 minutes later as we came through the crater was clear and and he said you just never know what will... More
