It's a short, cool, free attraction to see which makes a lot of sense for Maui

Going to the Lahaina Jodo Mission is a short trip, just a quick walk around the grounds for a moment really, to look at the large buddha and the several pagodas adjacent to Baby Beach, just North of Lahaina (also next to a very, very quirky cemetery). Parking is free, and there isn't any particular information about what you are... More

We heard that the mission was a cool site to see, so on our way to explore the island we stopped in. We weren't allowed to go inside the temples, but it was a very peaceful site and cool to see! It doesn't take more than 10 minutes to see the entire thing, with time left over to sit and... More

Went there on a morning. The area was open but temples were closed. It is nice for a quick walk around and some pictures. The cemetery on the beach on the other side is worth having a look. The beach in the front is also very nice.

This free compound consists of a big open courtyard surrounded by Tokyo-style buildings suitable for Buddhist ceremonies. One building is open for interior views. Right on the water, parking on the street outside.

It is small, and not far from Lahaina Harbor (short drive). There is not a whole lot of time to spend here, but it is amazing to see the Buddha and experience this culture in Maui!

My fiance and I made a quick stop here one morning after we had checked out of one hotel and was waiting checkin time at another. There was plenty of parking so we pulled right up to the gate. There is a donation box at the entrance and it was on the honor system when we were there. So we... More

I stopped by the admire the beautiful architecture. There is a beautiful temple and prayer bell. There is also a giant Buddha statue where you can leave offering which I found to be quite beautiful.

This is the home of the largest Buddha statue outside of Japan. It's really impressive. You can also ring the prayer bell.

I've attended this mission's Obon Festival for the past three years. I am not a member of the Buddhist community per se, but I do love cultural events and learning, and I have a deep respect for anyone practicing compassion. This mission invites everyone to take part in their floating lantern ceremony - honoring ancestors who have passed, and to... More

I look forward to summers because Lahaina Jodo hosts the biggest Japenese Obon festive on the ISLAND (including the only lantern ceremony).
