Wonderful to see. Impressive statue of Budda, gong & temple. Felt very peaceful. Puuphi cemetery across the street. Hidden gem away from the tourist traps.

The Jodo Mission has the largest Budda statue outside of the Orient. It is located in a quiet corner of Lahaina and we were the only people at the mission when we visited. It had a pagoda, a traditional gong with a tree trunk striker, and a rock garden. It's a nice place to visit if you want to get... More

Who expects to see a 90 foot pagoda when in Maui? Not us, but it was fun to go see and photograph the Buddah, Pagoda and Church.

Buddha statue and temple is worth half an hour. You can view the statue with the mountains behind it and the small temples.

We stopped at the Jodo Mission this trip. It is beautiful and very peaceful. We walked up the steps to the Buddah and spent a few minutes meditating. There is no place to really go inside but it is a very pretty spot. A place to bring your worries to.

Even non-Buddhists will enjoy visiting the Lahaina Jodo Shu Mission. It is free to wander the grounds and take in the huge statue of the Amida Buddha, which was cast of copper and bronze in Kyoto, Japan during 1967-1968. It is beautiful, standing 12-feet high, and estimated to weigh 3 1/2 tons. There is also a Temple, which is open... More

We did a segway tour and the first stop was the Jodo - it was not on our original list of places to visit but was well worth the history and Buddhist experience.

Had to stop and see this history. You cannot enter the temple but can see inside the smaller building. It has a giant budda that has steps to approach and see, a giant gong and other sites.

My wife is a Buddhast and all the years we have visited Maui found the largest Buddha statue outside of Asia if located near the Mala Ramp. My wife was thrilled with the enclosed area and cultural building construction. There is parking outside the gated area. It is free to enter and walk around and a perfect photo opportunity.
