Visited in winter, no swimming but big waves

The entire North Shore of Oahu is a site for sore eyes. If you love beaches, open oceans and big waves you need to check it out.

Visited briefly in December 2014 on the way back from Pipemasters at Sunset Beach. The waves were so big, the police were on the beach patrolling to make certain no one went in or too close to the water. There were also signs stating so as well. Waves crashed powerfully against the rocks as the tides came ashore. In spring... More

this beach was just a short walk from the backpackers we stayed at. the sea was warm, golden sands, blue waters. Some days had big waves enjoyed by lots of surfers. traffic can be congested with people heading to beaches along the north shore.

The Northshore area is the total opposite of the Honolulu side of Oahu , no skyscrapers , no tourist menus - very nice and if the swell is right in the winter months just unbelievalble for wavewatching..

This was one of the highlights of our trip. We were there late December 2016 and the waves were perfect for going out and playing in them. The waves crashed pretty close to shore so you didn't have to go out far to get pounded by them. We had a blast just jumping into them and riding them. It was... More

We visited Waimea Bay in the winter when the waves are bigger, but that didn't stop my teenagers from having a blast! There is a large rock/cliff that is really popular with the locals to cliffdive off of, and my kids both had to try it! My son went four or five times! The beach is beautiful and big, there... More

This is a great beach to visit, but get there early to get a parking spot. If the waves are big don't risk it and stay out of the water. If you dare jump, off the rock with the locals, it is fun. If you want a beach, stop here for a 1/2 a day, you won't regret it.

We visited twice and both times the water and shore line was different, the kids got to jump off the rock when it was calm and when the waves were aggressive, they body boarded. Our kids are avid ocean swimmers though, both activities were high level.

Great beach to relax & work on your tan. The surf was quite rough when we visited so I can't advise on the swimming conditions. However, parking is extremely limited for this popular beach so arrive early.
