- Jerri LJohnston, Iowa4,019 contributionsChocolate tours, tasting, wine bar and live musicWe stopped in around 3pm on a Thursday and asked about the chocolate tastings. They offer an in depth full tour and tasting in the mornings (register online) for $25/person but also offer the abbreviated tasting without reservations at no cost and without pressure to buy. There were four others at the time we sat down for our tasting and the presentation was well organized, quite casual and fun. We were given a nice history and each of the chocolates we tasted was explained. We enjoyed every sample we tasted and they were all quite different depending on the region grown or the flavoring added. We were asked if there were any we hadn’t sampled which we would like to try as well. We sampled the specialties… lavender, ghost pepper, and sun flower, a few of the regional chocolates and a few of the chocolates with added flavoring. We also had chocolate tea. When completed (about 20 minutes) we chose to buy chocolate to be shipped home. With $40 purchased, shipping was free, and they were running a special that day - buy 6 bars and the 7th is free; buy 10 bars and get two more free. Everyone working was pleasant and so helpful, making the experience perfect. We asked about the wine and chocolate pairings - reservations are required, for $50/person you are walked through chocolates and perfect wine pairings (only Wednesday evenings). After 5pm the location turns into a wine bar some evenings and they offer a wine menu, beer, cocktails, and charcuterie tray or chocolate with live music. Check the schedule on the web site. This was an amazing stop our hosts told us about and we were so glad we stopped in for the chocolate tasting. We hope to make it back another evening during our stay to visit the wine bar and enjoy the live music and wine.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten November 9, 2023

We happen to enter right as they were beginning a chocolate tasting for free and were able to sample a number of different types of chocolates with great explanation. The staff was wonderful the place was clean and atmosphere was warm and inviting. Really a must-see if you are in the areaVisited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten January 5, 2024
- Kathryn8 contributionsTasty & Classy! We went to their "SIP & PAIR" wine and chocolate experience and got to listened to marvelous Matty McIntire perform (he plays “acoustic music fused with neo-folk and funk to classic soul and reggae). The combination of delicious wines, tasty foods and wonderful entertainment blended with the enthusiastic expertise and humor of the warm and welcoming staff created an incomparable evening with lasting joyful memories. Tanis was especially fun and knowledgeable about all aspects of their available wines, their onolicious Hawaii grown chocolate and all other available products and tasting events. She has excellent customer service skills and made our customized experience complete. We highly recommend Mānoa Chocolate and their Natural Wine Bar!Visited April 2024Travelled with friendsWritten April 21, 2024

I thought this was going to be a physical tour of a chocolate making factory, but it's actually a chocolate tasting for the most part, which was even better! I found a Groupon buy one, get one free which made the cost really affordable for as much chocolate as we got to enjoy. The employees of this small start-up business are passionate about their chocolate. It's been hard to go back to eating regular milk chocolate after tasting some of their specialty craft chocolate!

The tour guide was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable about what they are doing and the global impact their operation is having in the world. They are committed to high ethical standards in their sourcing which is a big deal to me, so learning how their little chocolate operation is impacting farmers all over the world was wonderful to hear. We also got to taste all the different varieties they offer. Our tour was on the weekend so we didn’t get to se the chocolate being made like you would on a week day. Take that into consideration when choosing a day for your tour. It’s very small so if you aren’t up for a lot of walking, that won’t be a problem.

As we walked through the doors of Manoa chocolate, we were taken back by the Wonderful aroma filling the air. The tasting room had a beautiful woodwork and pristine equipment. We were greeted by Gracie who spent a lot of time with our group of six people. She gave us chocolate tastings from plants grown all over the world and offered wonderful commentary as we enjoyed the amazing super food paired with chocolate tea. There was no pressure to purchase anything, but it was impossible to leave without taking some of that experience home with us. We will certainly be ordering online when our supply gets low. We can’t wait to go back and visit.

We were given a mini-tour whilst our guide gave us a brief explanation of chocolate production before we sat at the bar in the centre of the room. First of all we tried a chocolate drink made from just cacao beans and water. It was certainly different but my wife enjoyed it and thought she could get used to drinking it. We then tasted samples of the chocolate – five were of single origin and five had additions such as lavender. Although there was absolutely no pressure to buy anything, we bought five bars including Hawaiian Sea Salt, Ghost Pepper and Coffee and Nibs.

A small business tour with a global perspective. This was a fun, informative, and tasty tour! I gained a new appreciation for the industry and for this company and learned a bit more about Hawaii. As a local, I'm so glad to have taken a tourist day and visited Manoa Chocolate. You can stop in to shop and see some of the production for free but to really get the full experience, schedule a tour & tasting in advance.

We enjoyed learning about the chocolate making business and were surprised to learn that most of the cacao beans used in Hawaiian chocolate are not locally grown! It was also interesting to learn about some of the Agricole partnerships (like Manoa Chocolate and KoHana Rum.) Our favorite part, of course, was sampling the different varieties of chocolate. The only available parking is metered parking, and with the parking lot shared with other area businesses, it's a little tough finding a spot. The "chocolate people" can help you make change for the meter, though!

The information shared was very interesting but this is not a tour. You walk from corner to corner of the store, which we already did when we arrived waiting for the tour, and look at some pictures. Again, interesting information but not a tour. We walked maybe 30 feet the whole "tour." The saving grace here is that you do get to try some of the chocolates made in the store. But we paid for the tour and peope who just walked in off the street got to taste the same things we did and it didn't cost them anything. Don't go in expecting a "tour" of anything. This is more of a "talking to" than tour.

As a local cacao farmer on Kauai, I went to Manoa Chocolate to see what happens to my beans once I ship them out. The tour and tasting was absolutely wonderful and I also spoke with Dylan(the owner) about the chocolate making process. These guys are the real deal, make damn good chocolate, and are the a major part of the growing chocolate industry in Hawaii. Without them we would either have to invest heavily in our own chocolate making facility or ship out to the mainland. Hopefully Hawaii can one day become the Napa Valley of chocolate!

After a day at the beach in nearby Kailua Beach we headed to Mānoa Chocolates for a chocolate tasting. All of the cacao for their chocolates are grown across the state of Hawaii and then manufactured here on the premises in Kilauea. Our chocolate sommelier was Aubrey and she provided a great education on the cacao fruit, how the bean is then harvested and turned into chocolate. We tried more than six chocolates, had brewed chocolate in between each to clear our palate and it was all complimentary! Something quite amazing is how there was one chocolate - 70% dark, which was the same exact recipe, but from two very different cacao trees and they tasted so different. One was from lava fields on the big island of Hawaii while the other was from farmland on Maui. Well worth the visit and tasting session. We ended up buying four bars to go!

I do not recall an elevator. Getting up the stairs with a walker would be a challenge. I would give them a call and see :)
