It's a beautiful place and in the winter a lot of places aren't open but the trade off is no crowds. Recommend Bar Harbor for accommodations and food. Somerville is a must see.

We've been coming to Acadia National Park now every summer since we first discovered it. My second favorite place in the Northeast. Our home is in Mt. Washington Valley, which is a treasure in itself. Ocean/mountains...love them both. It gets very crowded, of course, but it always seems to work out beautifully. Very dog friendly, which we love.

We ventured by car, south of the park, and enjoyed other harbor areas, passing stunning homes and great views. Although we did not stop, a number of restaurants along the route looked worth a visit.

We love it here during the off season, May or November. We stay on the Quiet Side of the island at Southwest Harbor. Our favorite drives are down to Bass Harbor, up to Northeast Harbor, over to Bar Harbor. The pink granite shows up all over the island--love it!

The island was beautiful with many hotels and restaurants to choose from. I was also surprised how pet-friendly most of the shops and restaurants were.

So nice to enjoy the views off season without dealing with the crowds. Beautiful area even in the cold temperatures. Us and the dog loved it.

My wife and I went up for many years in the spring or the fall. Lower rates at that time. Since she passed away I have taken advantage of my retirement's snow bird plan. As a result I have found another beauty in off season vacation as I rent a house for 4 months while all my fellow snow birds... More

The terrain is fabulous. We toured the Island and loved all the vistas and scenery. Our only disappointment was Bar Harbor itself. We were there 35 years ago and loved the quaintness. Now it's touristy which isn't bad, but definitely not the same.
