Even for me, a left side thinker, ArtWaves brought out a creativity in me I didn't know existed. Working with colored glass to make a mosaic offered a tactile experience I enjoyed and the end result surpassed my expectations. I highly recommend signing up for an extended class or attending a workshop and becoming a member offers privileges as well as discounts.

This is excellent community resource for creative pursuits. They have the space, tools ,and equipment, and for a nominal fee to cover the consumable supplies you can learn and create and commune with other creators. I have done relief printmaking, botanical mono printing. Wax candles, pop up greeting cards, glass mosaics. My very favorite aspect is the Monday evening figure drawing group. No instruction but good models, lighting and space. Very reasonable fee for the models. Art waves has also sponsored some great intensive multi day workshops with inspirational teaching artists. Erica Qualey, watercolors, Philip Dvorak, figure drawing. I'm so happy to have this resource in our community .

I was part of a group of women who worked with wax to create encaustic paintings at ArtWaves on Mount Desert Island. The location was divine, sitting back from the highway with wonderful indoor and outdoor space. They are able to offer workshops to the traveler and local folks as well. All supplies are available, one only needs to join the group and begin creating. The ambiance is so comfortable and relaxed that commraderie and laughter surround us as we follow the process of making an art piece. I would make this a definite stop during a trip to Bar Harbor area.

I've taken classes and taught workshops at ArtWaves. It's a pretty special place, with a friendly and welcoming community. Classes range from introductory level to fairly advanced, and the overall atmosphere is 'Everybody is an artist, come on in!' Love the energy there.

We signed up for the stained glass mosaic activity and had a fantastic time. The instructor was inspiring, fun, and patient with my wife and I. She had plenty of great examples and suggestions but also was willing to step back for the people who kind of wanted to do their own thing. This is a great way to spend a few hours on Mt Desert Island.

Last winter I went one of Liz's free art classes for the community, held at the Jesup library in BH. Introduction to print-making. There were at least 25 of us--not many under 50, but all eager to play. Social and "serious," we got quiet as we applied ourselves to our projects. I felt how we're all kids again when we play, and give play to our imagination. It's truly satisfying & so basic to us as humans to create--and to try new art forms stretches us in new ways. It's wonderful that Liz offers this opportunity in different venues & media to the community & our beautiful island's many visitors.

We brought friends and family for an evening class in printmaking/tile mosaic. Ages in our group literally 8 to 80. Our instructor was wonderful/patient with young kids and "widely varying degrees of artistic talent."
Everyone had a great time, learned new artistic media, and brought home unique artworks.
Keeping 8 year olds engaged, 13 year old away from iPhone, and 4 generations happily conversing for 2+ hours is an activity to bookmark.
Perfect wind-down after a day outdoors in Acadia. And a must-do for rainy days.

In July 2019 I brought my 13 year old granddaughter and we had a wonderful time. I'm the least artistic person on the planet and yet Liz Cutler helped me feel talented!

Very creative group and very welcoming.
I wish we lived closer so we could participate more, but it is well worth the trip.
We will definitely plan to stop there again the next time we are travelling in the area.

I highly recommend class at Artwaves. I found the instructions easy to follow and very informative. I knew nothing about felting prior to the class and was charmed to find the workshop warm and welcoming. I have continued to felt since the class and I can say learning a new craft had great impact on my life to my great pleasure. Don't be intimidated if you have no art training, the teaching meets students where they are in small groups. Parents should consider classes for kids too and you can even hold craft birthday parties for them. I love Artwaves, the Bar Harbor area is better for it.

Do you get to make and take home a stained glass project after a 3 hour ship excursion ?

I am not clear on the ship excursions
I use our local arts center studio.
But Yes!
You make and take home a framed 5 x 7 or so, stained glass mosaic, bubble wrapped to go.
