A Fascinating Look at the Prison

There was a lot of information included with this visit to Alcatraz. They use individual systems so you don't have to worry about being out of the leader's sight.

The views alone from the island in the Bay are worth the half day trip. The rest of the visit, the history, the island walks are amazing. A must visit if you are going to the Bay area.

We were booked for 10:30, but at 20 we were rushed on board. The tour was great, very informative and interesting. The weather was terrible, no views, but we still loved it

The audio tour inside the cell house was really interesting. We really liked that everyone had their own headset in the language they wanted, and it directed you around the whole cell house while telling facts and stories about the former penitentiary. You had the freedom to walk the other grounds on your own as well. It is one of... More

Interesting and informative. The history of before the prison was new news to me. I believe they escaped?

We went with a teen and younger. Both had a great time as there is something for everyone to grasp no matter what age. My kids still talk about this trip. Consider a night time or plan a visit where you will be on the island for sunset. The prison takes on a different "light" at night. If you are... More

Let's face it, "The Rock" is now a tourist mecca. You need to buy your tickets WELL IN ADVANCE...as in months. We went at night, assuming it would be less crowded, and maybe a bit more creepy. We most enjoyed the outdoor guided tour prior to entering the prison walls. The inside tour is via headset, and it gets a... More

I continue to be amazed at this place. A big tip: buy tickets before you set sail for San Francisco. Many tickets sell out quite quickly and weeks in advance. You wouldn't want to miss your preferred time:) We went on the first boat - 8:45 AM. It was cold!!!!! But the journey to the big rock was calm -... More

Went on the night tour which gives a different view of the island from the boat and offers a few extras like specific talks on different aspects of the history. We had a great time even though it was a beautiful day or was still cold out on the rock!! Wrap up warm whatever the weather in the city.
