We visited San Francisco for the first time this year and it was such an enjoyable visit, with our Alcatraz tour being a highlight. The audio tour was excellent. We were on the first tour so had no trouble getting through or dealing with some...More

Take the audio cell tour. It is very engaging and the audio tour is available is many languages. It can get pretty cold so do dress warmly in winter.

Interesting to see the island from the city, then to travel to it by ferry and walk around outside. Not so much when you go inside the prison. Everything I have seen inside made me sad. I would not go again.

On our Princess cruise we prebooked a Trip to Alcatraz Island and a trip across the Golden Gate Bridge at a cost of $129 each, it was a ripoff as the ship docks near the pier to go to Alcatraz we could have walked it...More

A must see while in the San Francisco area. I wished we had booked even earlier than the 2 weeks ahead so we could have done the evening tour. The audio is a fabulous feature.

As the title says came here again for the night tour with both of my brothers experiencing it for the first time. The audio tour is great and you get some extra little things you can do after with the night tour. The view of...More

A must visit attraction. Book in advance though as it fills up quickly. The audio tour is really good ... authentic with lots of info.

Varied historical exhibits beautifully capture different chapters in the island's history. The terrain and old buildings make for a good place to explore on foot and photograph the Bay and Cityscape. The audio tour of the infamous federal prison is awesome!

This was kind of one of those "may as well do it" things when I was in San Francisco. I didn't anticipate it being particularly cool but I was wrong on that front. The tour of the prison its self is very interesting, especially with...More

This trip was worth every penny, the headphone commentary takes you right back to the days the prison was in operation. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

I don't believe there is much, if any, parking at the Embarcadero. Would recommend taking taxi/Uber or public transportation.

Good advice about booking your ticket. Here’s some more don’t take your car into San Fran. You can’t get parking spaces, and if you do, they cost a fortune.
