Beautiful day to get off BART at the Embarcadero stop and wander amongst the vendors and catch a streetcar to Pier 35 where we caught the ferry to Alcatraz. When we returned, enjoyed walking the whole way back. Despite the touristy crowd, enjoyed the people...More

Very nice boulevard walk from the Port of San Francisco to Fisherman's Wharf. There is a lot to see along this walking route. Beautiful views of the city of San Francisco, the bay bridges, harbours, the bay itself, Alcatraz, several piers, shops, (seafood) restaurants and...More

The busy street runs along the city foreshore on land that was once part of the bay. It has several parks and a number of beautiful buildings. The Ferry Terminal is located here, the cruise terminal, Pier 39 and the Fisherman's Wharf area. It connects...More

Great place for a long walk where you can see much of the Bay, the Bridge, some parkland, the Ferry Bldg., and lots of people enjoying the city.

A lovely walk from Embarcadero BART station via the market to Pier 39 and Fisherman’s Wharf. Wide open pavements with information about the history posted along the way. Plenty of opportunities to take photos of the views as you walk along. On the way back,...More

Nice , clean toad, wide footpath to walk on at any time of day. People are walking, running all the time. The sitout eateries of market place are occupied. Kids in prams, kids holding parents hand, school kids on a visit are fun to watch....More

After being here for 10 minutes, we turned around and left. Pretty sure we narrowly avoided our car being broken into as a guy was looking in the windows as we came back. Between the trash, the dirty needles and the excrement on the streets,...More

My wife and I walked around a bit mostly in front of Pier 39 and Fisherman's Wharf taking pictures. Views of Alcatraz on a clear day were good. Paid parking was very close. Prices for food overpriced for what you get.

We walked the Embarcadero by the Ferry Building, Alcatraz Pier, Pier 39 and all over the Fisherman's Wharf area. We did it both during the day and in the late evening. There are great views of the bay, many restaurants and interesting buildings all along...More

The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds
of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian
ristorante come together to create the charming
neighbourhood of North Beach, once the stomping
grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of
North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always
suitable for younger visitors, few neighbourhoods in
the city exude as much European charm and style.

We didn't find it necessary to have a rental car in the city. Taxis are very inexpensive and lots of public transport options. With cable cars it can be a bit tricky driving if you're not used to it. We hired a car for trips... More
