I heard that the Asian Art Museum in SF was wonderful and a recent trip there confirmed it! What a great collection ofr art from all over Asia (China, Japan, Korea, India, the Himalayan regions, Pakistan, Indonesia, Persia, etc.). I downloaded a free app to my phone which provided excellent narration when I wanted it and highlighted the masterpieces. I... More

I enjoyed the museum mostly because I went on free admission day. I don't think the constant collections warrant the price of a ticket. History is shown most through artifacts like pots/pans, many many pots and pans. The layout of the museum is odd so do not be fooled by the giant staircase that takes you to the upstairs exhibits,... Whether the museum is holding a special exhibit that interests or to learn more about the art of different periods from various Asian countries, this museum is a must go to. Start on the top floor! You don;t have to see all the collections--spend an hour or two if that is the amount of time you have. Good restaurant.

Very beautiful exhibits and displays. Worth the visit especially if you miss not being in some part of Asia at this very moment. Lots to see and lots to sketch if you are so inclined.

We took an out-of-town relative to see jade. Great museum, 2 permanent levels and 1 special exhibits. We also had lunch in the cafe, they went again from service at the tables to cafeteria type where you carry your own trays. We didn't like it. The food is good as always.

We visit the museum often and are always amazed by the quality of the temporary exhibitions as well as the permanent collections. Everyone should see The Rama Epic and don't miss the great offerings in the gift shop. It's a fabulous museum and offers an exalted level of enlightenment.

Having been to the Freer and Sackler galleries in D.C. several times I was very impressed with the variety within the Asian Art museum in San Francisco. The temporary exhibit on Rama was very interesting and took up the entire 1st floor of the museum.

We've been to all of the great Asian collections in the US....from the MFA in Boston to the Met in NYC and this one is my favorite because it has such a quirky sampling of art and cultural objects that you don't see anywhere else.

The Asian has as its core the Asian art collection of Avery Brundage, and with later acquisitions now houses one of the premier collections of Asian art outside the Far East. The collection includes exquisite examples of Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Viet Namese, Tibetan and Indian art. There are also often special exhibitions that are well worth visiting. The Museum is...
