I have been to Fisherman's Wharf but did not realize that a much more interesting place to see was just a little to the west. The park has a wonderful visitor center/museum and offers access to three large ships: two sailing vessels and one steam driven ferry. The larger sailing/cargo ship includes lots of artifacts. Free guided tours are available.... More

It's part of the experince of the Wharf with several interesting ships to check out. Got kids? Don't miss the W.W. II submarine tour.

Had a brief visit at this museum during a recent vacation in San Francisco. It is on the water and offers a great glimpse into maritime history. Worth a visit for those with sea-faring interests.

This is a lovely place to visit on a clear day. You can look out at the Golden Gate or back in to the city skyline. There are historic ships you can visit, a maritime museum and the aquatic park pier where the best vistas can be enjoyed. There will be plenty of seabirds and boats to watch in addition... More

Plenty of ships to wander around on & see how shipping industry helped San Fran become a major port. There is even a house boat decorated in the mid 1800's style. Awesome!

This is an excellent place that not only symbolizes San Francisco history; but also maritime history in general. There is an excellent collection of late 19th Century/early 20th Century ships that visitors can go on, and below decks. There are ships engines on display, as well as other types of machinery. It might be hard to find a parking space,... More

This review is about the visitor center, where we spent a nice hour looking at exhibits depicting the history of maritime activity in the Bay Area. The exhibits are very well done, and the information is fascinating -- I especially liked the graphics regarding shipwrecks, and the origin of the Coast Guard as a lifesaving service. I would return here... More

There is an amazing little museum for free inside he visitor center. It is larger than you would imagine with a theme, great layout, and lots of information and artifacts. For a fee ($10/adult) you can tour ships on the Hoyt Street Pier. There were four ships, each different from each other with plenty of info and exploration available. There... More
