- JJJC_Family808 contributionsJust went for the ice cream and a good excuse to walk a littleWhen we visit SF, we try to come here for ice cream, usually a hot fudge sundae, which we shared this time. At an outrageous $15, it was a true guilty pleasure, but we enjoyed, so what the hell. We walked to the park ( National Park, no less, well less, actually ) across the street so we could look out on the water while we indulged. By the way, it's the excellent fudge that makes this truly worthwhile, although they were a bit stingy on it, this time. If we had more time, I would like to have explored the complex, it was already dark and we had a long walk back to our hotel. The funny thing, I don't think we ever did step into the complex in our visits there. What a waste.Visited August 2022Written December 13, 2022
- Michael MLos Angeles, California1,532 contributionsShopping Area That's Not All ChocolateOutdoor shopping area (stores are indoors) featuring some unique merchandise here and there. There are multiple Ghirardelli locations, we found the one on the lower level facing Beach Street to have a minimal line. Nice for a quick stop, but not necessarily a place you'll find yourself for a while.Visited December 2022Written January 8, 2023

Fulfill your cocoa dreams here in this square filled with local shops and cafes geared towards tourists. We stopped in for a free chocolate sample before splurging in the gift shop on chocolate bars, brownie mixes, and hot cocoas. Definitely make sure to stop by to satisfy your chocolate fix!Visited July 2022Written February 5, 2023
- Kimberly9 contributionsWorth the visitA wonderful tourist experience. Definitely in the hun of a tourist trap but worth the experience. The Ice cream was divine and chocolate aplenty of course. A hot fudge sundae was $16 for one scoop of ice cream. Souvenirs were minimal.Visited August 2023Travelled with friendsWritten August 9, 2023
- debiknowsCalgary, Canada105 contributionsLove Ghirardelli! The views were amazing, felt like the safest place down by the wharf, we spend our entire weekend there. Brunch at The Palette Teahouse, pricey but amazing. Happy hour and two dinners at Mccormicks, also fantastic, they cater to birthdays nicely too., Beers at San Fran Brewery. Some chocolate of course. It saved our trip since the rest of the wharf was very run down. Lots of restaurants closed.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten October 4, 2023

This is a plesant upscale shopping area with restaurants and arcades. Parking is conveniently located in the adjoining parking garage. The waterfront area is just across the street from the square.

Visited this place on the 14th of May 2023 while I was in San Francisco. Ghirardelli Square, considered the first successful adaptive reuse project in the country, has a history that spans more than a century and covers three continents. This specialty retail and dining complex, housing shops and restaurants, was originally a chocolate factory established by Domenico “Domingo” Ghirardelli.Well, that was the history of this place. One can experience the Chiradelli Chocolate Experience here and these ice creams are famous since 1864 ! An awesome experience !

A visit to San Francisco is never complete without dropping by Ghirardelli Square. Apart from the chocolates, they have the best chocolate sundae yet! Always worth every visit!

Overpriced crappy $15 "sundaeas".
Many, many vendors trying to take your money for "world famous SF product", we tried all, they were all disappointing, save you money.

Cioppinos in Fisherman Wharf area - 5 minute or so walk away.

Does Ghiradelli Square have other shops in addition to the chocolate?

The Ghirardelli square has several shops, yes, including a gourmet food and kitchen gadget shop, and is really lit up nicely during the winter months. We were there just after Christmas in January and it was still very festive. Plenty of shopping besides chocolate shops. Enjoy some Ghirardelli hot chocolate on a cool evening, it is delicious!

If the Bart isn't running because it is early morning you can buy a ticket with Super Shuttle. We used the Bart to get in to the city.
