An Oasis of peace

Just a few steps away from Mission, you'll find this oasis of peace. Very nice in between shopping, but even more beautiful at night.

We enjoyed our pastries from Mr. Holmes' bakery here. The weather was perfect and the park has plenty of benches to sit. The downside is that, like in most parks, there are many homeless people wondering around. It is right in front of the Modern Art Museum, which is a good next stop.

I was lucky enough to stay for 13 nights in the SoMo area, Yerba Buena Gardens is a little slice of serenity in the big city. Lush grass with the pop of beautiful flowers, water falls and trees add to the over all pleasure of the area. It made for a perfect spot to go outside from the convention center... More

We walked through Yerba Gardens as we left SF MOMA and we were entertained by some interesting music -- it was a mix of opera, rap, and classical. People were relaxing on the grass, walking behind the waterfall, and just enjoying the gorgeous late Spring weather here in San Francisco.

Not quite as dirty as the rest of the city. The architecture is great, the water feature is beautiful and the plants are interesting.

Wondering in this garden is so much fun especially on a beautiful, SF day! It is great for sights and walking. I lunched at Samovar which is a lovely tea and light eats restaurant in the upper garden which has a lovely outdoor area. I love their teas, juices and healthy eats. I just love it!!

Especially if you are staying right downtown, it is nice to get away from the traffic and bustle and take a little stroll. I didn't look into every amenity, but there is ice skating and bowling, children's play areas, and places to eat. On a nice day you can just lay in the grass. If I had my kids with... More

Just south of Market Street this gem lies just beyond the tall buildings. The MLK fountain is soothing and there's plenty of room to either sit on the ground or find an available bench. A nice place to eat lunch or grab a coffee from the adjacent Starbucks.

We were looking for the highly recommended childrens playground that was really nice - once you had found it through the maze of walkways and architectural gems in the Park itself. Would be a lovely place for a picnic.

When I passed by there was a bollywood concert going on in the middle of the park. It seems like they have cool events going on all the time. It was beautiful there with all the surrounding architecture. There were some nice looking restaurants as well. There were lots of people there too.

Staying in SoMa

Neighbourhood Profile
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighbourhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighbourhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
