Start at the top! It's much easier to go down the thousands (yes) of steps than go up them. The steps wind down through back yards and gardens, and are gorgeous. And then there's the killer view!

Just about most places worth seeing in San Francisco have hills and steps. However, it’s good to explore the city on foot and walking/climbing stairs. Great views from Coit Tower.

One of many great places to walk in the city. Park at the exploratorium outdoor lot, and walk up the Filbert steps to Coit tower and around the neighborhoods at the top of the hill. Fun garden views on the way up (or down) and...More

Definitely a good hike up 400 odd steps. Some good views on the way up from the steps. Also some interesting homes to look at. However, nothing too special here except a lot of stairs. Coit Tower is at the top which has a lot...More

This set of stairs will take you by some very charming cottages and residences that can only been seen by walking. To me, it's the essence of San Francisco -- secret paths with surprises to delight you at every turn. The views are spectacular. The...More

This is the best way to get up to Coit Tower - 453 steps (the guy at the top said) and some great peaks into beautiful houses and avenues along the way. The first 30 or so steps are the hardest but stick at it...More

When I’m showing people around SF we ALWAYS visit the Filber Steps. This area is beautiful, quiet and away from the hub bub of frantic sight seeing. The views are Splendid, the gardens superb, it’s just a lovely walk through a picturesque neighborhood.

After indulging in pizza at Washington Square, we tackled the Filbert Steps to get to Russian Hill. It's certainly a workout but worth it with the views of the city, quiet neighborhood, and cars parked parallel on an extremely steep street. If you like a...More

We descended the hill from Coit Tower on these steps, passing some beautiful houses on the way down. They are very steep but afforded lovely views on the way down

A little hard to find, but well worth the hunt. The steps are steep, old and sometimes slippery, but a view pops out at every turn.

North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds
of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian
ristorante come together to create the charming
neighbourhood of North Beach, once the stomping
grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of
North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always
suitable for younger visitors, few neighbourhoods in
the city exude as much European charm and style.

Not sure what the address is but if you go to Coit Tower, both sets of stairs are on the street just below I believe. Since that is well known it will be easy to find and then you can ask someone if needed. Also if you are... More

The restaurant changed hands (don't know when) and became the Dalla Torre. The Dalla Torre closed in 2006 and the site was converted to a private residence.
