Definitely a must see if you have a love for Japanese culture! I recommend planning on spending at least two hours here if you really want to experience both the food and shopping- and that’s a minimum! The convenience store Daiso was really fun to...More

We enjoyed our visit to Japan Center except for the smash&grab on our rental car. The police office said it was the fourth one they had to deal with that day alone. We won't be back until they can clean up the crime in the...More

Japantown is a great little area, about 4 square blocks, with a lot of things that come to mind to a lot of Americans when thinking of Japan. Anime books stores, sushi and ramen shops and convenience stores with lots of funky imports. Its a...More

I've been to San Francisco a few times and Japantown is a must visit place for food, deserts, and anime related things for the kids. We all enjoyed the atmosphere there and would return again when in town.

This was the old Japanese neighborhood before Japanese-Americans were removed during WWII. But since it's come back with a real Asian shopping center and a very large selection of excellent affordable Japanese restaurants,

The Japantown currently standing in SF is not the original Japantown. The original was destroyed in the name of "urban renewal" back in the 70s. The Victorians in the neighborhood were falling apart and hard to maintain so they were bulldozed and the current Japantown...More

If you are specifically looking for Japanese items or a Japanese restaurant, this is a good place to visit. The indoor mall has a number of shops and restaurants. However, as a tourist, I am not sure it is worth the visit. The outside tower...More

It is very clean in Japantown, and it has lots of Japanese food, clothes, cosmetics and sometimes they will have Japanese cultural performance. Not a big place, but do need to visit here if you come to san francisco.

This place is very interesting, definitely a lot smaller than Chinatown, but nowhere near as packed either. Great authentic Japanese stores and restaurants. Definitely worth while visiting if you want a taste of Japan whilst in San Franc.

There is a small plaza here with several restaurants and shops. Its a good place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. There's also a modern pagoda.

There is a parking garage under the mall. I usually use public transportation which is convenient and inexpensive.

Yes, I think it is. My family and I walked around 9:00pm and the streets were busy but we felt safe.

Stay around Union Square, which is pretty central to SF sites: Shopping centers, Chinatown, Financial District, North Beach and the Embarcadero. You could walk to these places or take the muni or the cable car, which can... More
