I have visited Japantown before and expecting something different and/or better change. However, I only see more restaurants and nothing else relates to Japanese culture. It's so disappointed.

We almost skipped this place based on the other reviews. I am so glad we went anyway! Japantown consists of a three-building mall and two squares. There was so much interesting stuff in all the stores and the food was amazing. We even ate a dessert infused with liquid nitrogen that makes makes people breathe smoke called "Dragon Breath." Awesome... More

This bears no resemblance to anything going on in 21st century Japan. It's a time capsule frozen in amber. Unremarkable foods.

We went to Japantown expecting something similar to Chinatown, a vibrant neighbourhood with lots of cafes and restaurants. But, what we got was one large building (a marketplace) with Japanese shops, and a small park/square with a few more additional shops. It was almost deserted and most shops were closed and it was before 5 p.m. I didn't really see... More

Japantown consists of a few blocks of vendors. It's an easy walk even for young kids. We checked out the different restaurants and stores. If you like Japanese food, this is the place to go. They also have a vendor that makes fresh tofu daily but come early because it gets sold out fast.

Nice to walk through, but not a lot more. Mostly businesses selling Japanese-made products, from low to high end. A few restaurants. A half hour should pretty much do it.

Japantown is fun to walk around with friends, family or solo. There's great food and stores. I love the specialty shops and markets. There's tons of culture around the city and this area is a gem! There's a Pokemon store and lots of hello kitty things.

My wife and I walked there from the financial district looking for a great Japanese meal akin to what you would find in a Chinatown anywhere around the world. We were disappointed. We walked around lots and really got a creepy vibe from the place. It's a bit run down and resembles what a town might look like when a... More

I was invited to a conference in the middle of the area - unfortunately the hotels in Japantown were full so I ended up "commuting" from a hotel in Fisherman's Wharf. Made for an interesting stay. Where the Wharf feels more touristy, Japantown seems to go at a quieter, tranquil pace. It was especially true when the storm blew out... More
