While visiting from Florida we happened to be in town to catch the preview shows of the first city in Hamilton's national tour, taking place at this magnificent old theatre. Tickets were long sold out of course, but we found some nosebleeds on StubHub and I pulled the trigger so my daughters could go. It's THE musical of their generation... More

I love attending shows at the Orpheum! It is beautiful and really well run. I recently saw a preview performance of Hamilton and they managed the very large and excited crowd with ease and a smile! The decor is a marvel and the shows are always spectacular! The theater is large enough to handle major shows but still has the... More

We have season tickets to SHN, which alternates between the Golden Gate and the Orpheum. The Orpheum is super close to BART and that is really nice. We saw "Beautiful" there, and it was great. We were stymied for a while about a good restaurant in the area, but found "Lalita's Distinctive Thai" and recommend it. The Orpheum is a... More

Tip, there is limited inexpensive parking a half a block up on Hyde street to the left. If you are lucky enough to get one of these spots, it's free on Sunday's. There really isn't a bad seat. I have sat in the orchestra, in the mezzanine and the balcony. Any of the seats had a good view and acoustics.... More

You don't necessarily have to be a season ticket holder to get a hold of great seats at the Orpheum, but it certainly helps! Call the box office or access tickets via their website. Don't forget to check for lottery seats for certain shows...it's worth a shot! The theatre itself is historic and beautiful and the staff go out of... More

Orpheum is the best Theater in San Francisco. I have had season tickets for the last 4 years and we love it. Much much closer than New York or London to go see shows :) Get the season pass. That way you never miss a show.

I'm a Bay Area Native- grew up going to this Theatre. Very beautiful old style building. Wonderful companies and shows some I've seen to include; Newsies and Wicked. Parking is VERY expensive near here- I taking Bart or Muni in (right by here).

We love going to the Orpheum to catch the NY Broadway shows! Not quite like being on Broadwy, but very close! The best way to take advantage of the shows at the Orpheum is to become a member of SHN and get season tickets. Not being able to do so, the theatre often has great seats available to the general... This is the most convenient theater in SF to public transportation and parking. It's not a huge theater, so most of the seats are good. There are cushions for children or anyone that is short. I usually get one to raise me especially if the person in front of you is tall. We've sat in the orchestra and mezzanine. The... More

Staying in Civic Center

Neighbourhood Profile
Civic Center
Civic Center is the seat of power for all things government and performance-related in the city. Although its streets are best walked during daytime, numerous cultural gems are within close proximity to one another. The symphony, opera, ballet, and jazz center offer year round entertainment within the shadow of the city’s Beaux-Arts crown jewel: the gold tipped dome of City Hall.
