Residential Neighborhood

Not really an attraction. This is where people live. Some good views of the downtown skyline and some very good neighborhood restaurants. But not much for tourists.

When I travel I like to get out of the tourist areas and see how the locals live. If you like to do this too I recommend a few hours in Potrero Hill. There are a half dozen shops to poke around in and buy souvenirs. I strongly recommend The Epicurean Trader at 401 Cortland Avenue for this. Then stay... More

We have found this neighborhood an excellent launching point for visiting the area as it is close to major thoroughfares, public transportation and is a charming village inside of a large metropolitan area. The elevated hill makes views of the rest of the city spectacular and when we want to visit the most touristy areas of the city we grab... More

As a San Francisco Bay Area local who just visited Buenos Aires and Santiago, I must say I am not that impressed with Potrero Hill. The shopping district is modest and it is likely a nice part of San Francisco to live. But as an attraction, it really isn't that great. A city with as much money and international notoriety... I lived on Potrero Hill in the 90's and early naughties. It has changed over the past 10 years but still has it's "Goat Hill" charm despite the influx of folks and the regular busy-ness of the local cafes and restaurants. The ONE thing to watch -- the parking patrol who drive around giving tickets are professional automatons -- they... More

Potrero Hill is a lovely, quiet residential neighbourhood south of the city, overlooking the Bay on one side and the Mission on the other. You can walk to both the Bay and the Mission, but beware the hills, which are very steep in places.

I am a regular visitor to SF and the bay area, but this is the first time I have stayed in Potrero Hill. It's like being in a village at the top of a mountain. The views are great, the roads are very steep, and the people friendly. Quite a set group of local 'village' shops as well. Easy taxi... More

My wife and I have visited San Francisco for over 40 years. We've always stayed in the busy downtown/marina core. While both areas are great we now prefer to travel as a local and Potrero Hill is a GREAT neighborhood! Grab yourself a VRBO and enjoy the many fine restaurants in close walking distance. Be sure to check out Sally's... More
