We drove slowly next to this lovely extension of Golden Gate Park, right in the middle of the Haight neighborhood. Since it is narrow and surrounded by densely-populated areas, it is much used by the locals. Lovely and welcome.

We didn't go to the panhandle of the park, but since there is no page for the rest of the park (???), I'll put my comments here in hopes people can find them.
We only had a few hours for this park, which wasn't nearly enough. It is HUGE and full of beautiful gardens, nice walking paths, and even several museums. If you want to row a boat or use a paddleboat, that's available at Stowe Lake (which has more island in it than water, but the island is nice, too!). The Ocean Beach runs along the west end of the park. Nice, wide sand beach. There were folks with dogs and even a few surfers the morning we walked there.
You could easily spend several days just in this park. By the way, they have a free shuttle service on weekends (yes, that's how large this park is).

We had a pleasant walk on the Panhandle piece of Golden Gate Park. The park is along several blocks with pleasant grassy areas and trees.

This extension of Golden Gate Park takes the green experience into the heart of the Haight neighborhood. Lots of lovely houses and apartment buildings line it. Too many cars and too much noise.

The Panhandle is a narrow green artery that provides a useful pedestrian connection to the eastern end of Golden Gate Park

The Hippies used to be here, but no longer. It's just a great park and provides nice views for the residential neighborhoods on either side. Good architecture.

We didnt walk trough it, just by car. But it was really nice, you leave the city behind and you enter this great park. You forget to be in a metropoly, it's another world. Amazing nature and trees. Then you arrive directly in the ocean!!best drive ever.

A portion of my walk from Haight Ashbury to Golden Gate Park led me through The Panhandle. Although small in comparison to my destination, it gives the visitor unique views of tall, stunning trees that provide beauty and shade in an urban landscape.

This is a lovely stretch of land aptly named as it leads to The Golden Gate Park. There are two paths on either side, one is walking only, the other shared with bikes and scooters et al.
Some nice statues and trees, very pretty.
