Visited mid week and wished we'd gone elsewhere; the concept is nice, the drinks are good but there was no atmosphere, packed full of tourists with nowhere to sit and nowhere to stand, waited 40 minutes for 4 drinks (one person behind the bar running orders and one making cocktails for 40 people in the downstairs bar).

We heard about this place after trying the supposed partner's tiki bars in Chicago called 3 dots and a dash and lost lake. We loved those places and were not disappointed by this tiki bar in SF. The presentation of each drink was great and most of them were sufficiently strong! If you are looking for a show order the... More

I love love love this place! I had a few drinks with my friends for my birthday and we had a really good time there. It's a two storage (both small) bar, tiki/pirate themed with good music and a great atmosphere.

We had some really good drinks there. It was not easy to find because there was no sign outside. But once you're in it's a really nice place. You have a huge selection of drinks to choose from and the ones we tried have been very good.

First time in to Smuggler's Cove last night and it will surely become a regular stop when we stay in SF in the future! Had a bunch of great rum drinks, found a new favorite that used to be a featured cocktail at The Lanai in San Mateo. Our bartender at the Cove, Steven, is friendly and talkative, and he's... More

We went to this rum bar thinking there wouldn't be a line up on a Thursday evening and boy were we wrong. It was a 30 mins wait outside and the bouncer was pitching to us that this bar is US highly rated bar. I don't know if it deserves that title but the drink we had - Top Notch... More

This is a must see bar, decor is awesome and drink menu is extremely creative. This is a one drink bar only as it's very small and there is always standing room only. Drinks are hand crafted, so sip slowly, you want to enjoy what you paid for.

Came for drinks after getting recommendation. The place was over busy, yet the bartender was able to ear the request.. Drinks are special and worth the visit

Came here after a recommendation from a bartender out of New Orleans. Back there he said as soon as I get to SF, I have to have some Cocktails at Smugglers Cove. So on my very first night in SF, I took a cab and went there. It is a cozy, dark, pirate-styled bar with three floors. It is rather... More

Good atmosphere inside and great drinks but the bartender was obnoxiously rude. I was looking at drinks menu at a crowded bar and he ripped it out of my hands, his only response was "you were in my light", I then saw he was reading the receipt for a drink (assume he didn't know it!). No apology offered. I commented... More

Staying in Hayes Valley

Neighbourhood Profile
Hayes Valley
Chock full of designer boutiques, art galleries, funky shoe stores, and great restaurants, it’s hard to imagine Hayes Valley once languished in the shadow of a major freeway. Its removal allowed for the creation of an attractive boulevard on Octavia Street with a community park at its center and dozens of trendy businesses to satisfy visitors looking for a stylish respite.
