This is the third time we have taken this tour! Linda Lee is so engaging, knowledgeable and fun! She shared the history and current affairs of this special spot in San Francisco so effortlessly and interestingly. Each time, we have learned new things and had a great time. HIGHLY recommend!

Hi jilly681: I hope that G. found Chinatown interesting and memorable, too. There is much history and culture in our 20 block neighborhood that two hours is not enough time to cover it all. Thank you for being repeat customers and sending a 5 star review.

We visited San Francisco recently and decided to take a hosted tour of Chinatown and chose "All About Chinatown". Having been to Chinatown several times before, and seeing only the "tourist" spots, I wanted to see and experience the "real" Chinatown. Linda Lee of All About Chinatown was our guide and she grew up in Chinatown. She is a first generation American born of Chinese immigrants. Her tour is very enjoyable and informative. The Dim Sum lunch was very good as well which is an add-on, if you choose to do it. I highly recommend this tour.

I pre-booked this tour from the UK for my wife and I as Chinatown was something we really wanted to experience and Linda gave us a tour that exceeded our expectations. The reviews are good but really don't do justice to her tour. We went on the tour with 4 others so it felt very personal and friendly and Linda made everyone feel at ease thoughout. We went on the same tour as Janie H - see her review below. Linda knew so much about Chinatown having grown up there and she took us to places that we certainly wouldn't have got to ourselves. Her narrative really helped position the importance of the Chinese in establishing San Francisco and helped knit together what we already had found out about San Francisco from other places. We all stayed for the dim sum luncheon which everyone enjoyed. The day we toured was a nice day weather wise but I'm sure that even on the dullest of days Linda would bring cheer to her troupe. By the way the fortune cookies are fantastic and the Chinese medicine (as recommended by the SFFD) really works. Thanks again for a great tour.

Dear Kevin F: Thank you for your positive review about your tour experience with me. We also enjoyed sharing our stories of travel and people at lunch. What I'm really exciting about is that the Po Tung Yau medicine worked for you! Warm regards to you and Susan.

Our tour guide, Alan Fong, was fantastic. Very knowledgeable about the town, and so friendly and personable. Alan had great stories and we learned a lot. Our group ended up being close to 20 people, which was way too many for this type of walking tour. Apparently some previous day cancellations got moved forward a day. Alan’s microphone & speaker were not working properly, which was unfortunate given the large size of the group that day. Thank you Alan for doing your best.

Tour was less than so-so. Maybe our guide was having an off day because I have seen positive reviews on this site with her name. I will not mention her name unless asked to do so by the company.
Tour started at St. Mary’s Church which was easy to Uber or taxi ride to from our hotel. The tour rounded around Chinatowns neighborhood streets up and down a couple a big hills.
Our guides personal childhood in the area was the focus of tour rather than the history and culture of the area. This personal information might appeal to someone who wants a personal connect to their guide, but this was a bit too much for me unless we were planning on becoming BFFs. My little group wanted information about things other than her own childhood and her current health issues. Our guide was on her phone way too much during the tour maybe tour related???? At the lunch, it got even worse. She was focused on her ride bringing late rather than interacting with the guests. We were so board by the walking tour that by the time we got to the restaurant that I can’t give the Oriental Peral a true review. Definitely not a restaurant I would of found on my own. It is upstairs without a real lobby on the ground floor. Not a place a usual tourist would of wondered into. Most groups seemed like tour groups.
Overall, our guide was distracted and not engaging. Her family stories along with a tiny bit of history which was often in the wrong order and interrupted by phone calls made for a very boring tour for my group of people who were so interested in learning more. Disappointed.

I'm sorry that the tour did not live up to your expectations. I have had a discussion with the tour guide who was assigned to your group. She has taken your comments seriously and will use them to improve her future tours. Thank you for taking the time to send us your thoughts.

While on a short vacation to the San Franciso area, we decided to do something we had always wanted to do. We took a walking tour of Chinatown. We chose All About Chinatown Walking Tours, by host and owner Linda Lee. It was such a postive expenience, it is something we would do again. Linda was very knowledgeable, friendly, welcoming, and knew answers to all of our questions. We toured a Fortune Cookie factory, were we sampled fresh, hot off the oven cookies. We visited a Buddahist Temple, walked down alleys where you would not normally go. A visit to a Chinese pharmacy is a must. Linda took us to a Chinese grocery store and to a Chinese meat market which was well, enlightening to say the least. And other sites in Chinatown. All topped off by a Dim Sum lunch. If you only have a short amount of time in San Francisco this is a must tour to take.

Linda,
we were in your tour this sunday morning - me and my 3 kids (aged 10-15).
just wanted to thank you so much for such an interesting and tour and funny stories. we all loved it.
the kids are still talking about the special chinese medicines you showed, the crowded conditions you lived as a kid in chinatown, the so tasty fortune cookies from the chinese bakery we visited, etc.
the kids even told about adventures from this tour to their friends back home as one of the best in our 2.5 weeks trip in usa.
we saw in the tour so many interesting things and heard such stories and explanations that we couldn't have known or seen if we walked by ourselves in the streets.
thank you again. we really anjoyed your tour and will sure recommend it to whoever goes to san francisco!

My husband and I had a great time on the tour. Linda Lee was full of interesting info about Chinatown. She kept it fun and light while weaving in the history of Chinatown. We would never have found the Fortune Cookie Factory on our own and that would have been a shame. Seeing the unique architecture and getting clear background on it from Linda was very interesting. We would highly recommended this tour to anyone visiting the bay area.

Great experience with Linda . It was just myself and an older couple from Australia. We were able to walk a good pace and the food was awesome. It was a little pricey overall but everything in SFO is expensive.

Dear sammie: I'm so glad you had a good time on our tour. You are so right about the cost of living here. Guess we have to pay dearly for such good weather and an array of experiences for both locals and visitors.

Great walking tour and guide is very funny and knowledgeable. She is delightful and has a way of sharing that is so adorable and fun. Lunch is good food great dim sum but overpriced completely for 30. Especially that there is very little protein, - you get chow mean, fried rice, green bean and dim sum and desserts balls w tea. However the food was delicious place was clean and quiet but overpriced.

Dear darlenestarlight: Thank you for your positive review and your helpful comment about the price of the lunch. However, rising costs of food and rent have forced restaurants in Chinatown to raise their prices. It is difficult to find a restaurant that offers everything that I want for a group meal, but I think the restaurants we choose meet our standards: delicious dim sum, clean, excellent service, and able to accommodate any group size at a moment's notice. For future visitors, please ask us to send you a list of restaurants that we recommend if you would like to dine on your own.
