Small neighborhood bar (small, I mean about 20 feet by 30 feet), painted all black, very dark, very loud, and not much to distinguish itself from any other dive. Oh, wait, they did charge a cover for cupcakes (yeah, like baked goods in a bar)...More

The first bar I went to when I first visited San Francisco in 1996. My partner and I were in town for seven days and we went to the Lone Star for six of those nights. Not just a neighborhood bar but a piece of...More

It took a strange turn for a few years, the historic Lone Star Saloon is back! With the 2 bartenders left from the glory days of the world's first "Bear Bar" taking ownership, the Lone Star has returned to it's roots. The bartenders are friendly...More

Good to hear new owners are long time bartenders. Forget the haters. My buddies said it was back to bears and beer...I'm coming back for more.

Friendly bar men, nice outdoor patio, good vibes, good tunes. Often sit in the sun trap out back catching the rays with a cold drink. Has a great underground feel being in SOMA away form the tourist trap of Castro!

Anytime is best except for Sunday Beer Bust - it gets packed and this bear gets too sweaty inside - so I like going there when it's not so wild

We love the Lone Star. Nothing pretencious about it. All kinds of guys (all shapes and sizes). Bar tenders are friendly as is the crowd (mostly bears and cubbies). We always have fun at the Lone Star.

This place is an original -- just what a bear bar should be. Pool table, patio, frequent beer busts and mobs of big hairy guys and their fans. On one of those rare San Francisco hot afternoons, the shirts come off and the place is...More

South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated
vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs

find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter
for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able
to do more than just business - museums, top quality
restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call
this neighbourhood home. Most of its freeway-sized
