Surprise museum

First visit. Large model train lay out, 100 local animals who can't be put out in the wild, Appeared to be lots of classes available for locals.

This San Francisco treasure usually sits high on top of Corona Heights in the Castro area. This in itself is a great geological site where Seirra Plate collides with Pacific Plate. If you are not into geology, climbing to the top to(Gods Thumb) gives you one of the best views of San Francisco. Museum is currently (June 2016)under restoration do... More

We were taken there by relatives, who live in SF, and have a teenage son. Had no clue it was a children's museum. Since I have raised 3 sons and have been to gazillions children's and science museums all over the country, I was disappointed and confused by this choice. It is cute, somewhat interactive, and free. But even in... More

This is a nice little museum which is free to kids and has some animals, cars and trains. it's not great, but ok - combine it with a walk up the Corona Heights hills and get a spectacular view of the city. I'd normally give this a rating of 3 stars, but with the walk up the hill, it becomes... More

If was a way to spend an hour entertaining the kids. Pros - free with a few animals to see! Cons-top of a hill and dirty! Wouldn't bother.

We walked from 20th street & Church. Very steep hills pushing a stroller. Google map was inaccurate resulting in need to back track. Needed hot water for a babies feed. Took at least 30 mins to access some with hungry baby waiting. As its a child's interactive museum such facilities were expected. A coffee/ kitchen bar would help mums.

I found the Randall by way of the now gone SF Free Civic Theatre Companywhich used to perform in the Museum theater. This small, FREE, natural history museum has lovely grounds, parking and amazing city views. Pack a picnic and come enjoy a meal and some fun for the kids!
