Grew up in the Bay Area and whenever we come back if we have the chance, we like to visit this church. Not a regular church goer but this is just incredible. The architecture and feeling inside is beyond amazing. Located on Washington Square in the Little Italy neighborhood - and that address - really ?? 666 Filbert St. -... More

A very unusual street address. Anyways this is a nice cathedral on Washington Square. If you get there for mass you will notice that it is in Italian. Nice building.

Beautiful inside and an Eclectic location outside. I've lived in the Bay Area for years and today I took my first look inside this church. If you traveled in Europe or South America, you'll feel right at home. The park outside, Washington Square, is home to everything from local residents to, well, people who reside in the park. This church... More

This church is very historic and beautiful and we found it convenient to stop in for a Saturday evening mass while out and about in San Francisco.

Home to many famous weddings and proclaimer of one baptism, one world, one shepherd philosophy. Near red light district of San Francisco and many great Chinese and Italian restaurants meet together. If you're in the area visit this building. At night the facade is illuminated by projector in the adjacent park.

This is a gorgeous church that is open to the public. Very beautiful inside. A great place for a few moments of silence and stillness while you're in this very bustling city. Be aware that they close the church at 4:00 so get there early!

Really enjoyed this church. Beautfiu inside and out. the Staff were very nice and personalable. I felt at peace while attending mass, although it was in Italian i really felt very spiritual. One added bonus: Marilyn Monroe and Joe Dimaggio both attended this church as well. Highlight of my trip. The Morris Family from Takoma Park, MD.

Again, if you are tired of strolling the city or after climbing down from Coit Tower, come in and appreciate a moment of rest and peace.

I thought it was a place full of answer about the italian history in SF while it's just a simple church. The mass is nice but nothing special.

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighbourhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighbourhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighbourhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighbourhood home.
