This is your backstage pass to the coolest area in the universe! Stroll through the cosmic history of it all, from rock’n roll to art, fashion and architecture, this fantastic walking adventure gives you real insight into the cosmic draw of the Haight-Ashbury! The tour is approximately 60% hippy history and 40% general neighborhood history and architecture, but it is always 100% ‘far-out’ fun! Saunter along the same streets that Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, The Grateful Dead, Joni Mitchell and countless others etched their marks into the collective alternative culture and creativity of the 20th century! Approximately 12 blocks, final destination 2 blocks from the point of origin. A poetic and symbolic act of retracing the footsteps of so many, returning with greater understanding and heightened consciousness.

Great tour

We enjoyed the tour. Stan was very knowledgeable about the area and he's a local. The walking was minimal and moved at a good pace. I felt like it is a good price too.

I don't usually leave reviews on Trip Advisor, but was so impressed with today's walking tour of Haight that I thought I must...The tour lasted more than 2.5 hours and was packed with facts about the history of the area from the 19th century to present day, including 'the summer of love'. We got to hear many interesting anecdotes and... More

Great experience. Our guide Sunshine was so knowledgeable, passionate and enthusiastic. Really educated us on the Summer of Love and how Haight and Ashbury are the heart of San Francisco. We'd definitely recommend this tour! Thanks Sunshine ☉

The funny and very competent tour guide gave us a glimpse of his amazing love for and historical knowledge about Haight Ashbury. We had hoped for more information about the Hippie era but we still liked the tour and happily recommend signing up for it!

Pam lead us with a small group around the area and was very knowledgable. She'd lived it and gave us a good insight into the counter culture lifestyle of the times. We also got a secret look inside her house ✔️

This is an excellent tour! We learned a ton - and not just about the rock stars that lived in the neighborhood, but about the neighborhood itself and it was fascinating! The summer of love lives on!!

To be fair, my significant other was more interested in the tour than me, but I was mistaken. The tour was amazing. We learned a lot of facts and history about the Haight Asbury era, San Francisco as a whole, and, of course, the summer of love. We highly highly recommend it.

Sunny (our tour) was absolutely wonderful. She was passionate about the history of the neighborhood she loves and did it justice. It was an honor to meet Sunny and be able to notice and learn things I would have otherwise missed - can't recommend this tour enough.

Stan was a wonderful tour guide. I learned tons of new stories and tidbits even though I thought I had my Summer of Love and Haight-Ashbury facts together. Very informative and entertaining, and the opportunity to see the inside of a charming Victorian house by the end of the tour adds a very nice touch, makes you feel welcome and... More

Neighbourhood Profile
Haight-Ashbury
The area surrounding the intersection of Haight and Ashbury streets, “The Haight” still exudes vibes of the 1960s counterculture as a haven for vintage clothes, music, pop posters and body piercing shops. While the Summer of Love ended decades ago, Haight-Ashbury has turned into a melting pot of hippies, hipsters, and professionals. Walking through its streets can still feel like stepping back in time. A must-see neighbourhood for most music fans, it’s easy to see why these streets attracted the likes of the Grateful Dead and Janis Joplin. You’ll likely be content in The Haight day or night, just be sure to wear some flowers in your hair.
