About
This is your backstage pass to the coolest area in the universe! Stroll through the cosmic history of it all, from rock’n roll to art, fashion and architecture, this fantastic walking adventure gives you real insight into the cosmic draw of the Haight-Ashbury! The tour is approximately 60% hippy history and 40% general neighborhood history and architecture, but it is always 100% ‘far-out’ fun! Saunter along the same streets that Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, The Grateful Dead, Joni Mitchell and countless others etched their marks into the collective alternative culture and creativity of the 20th century! Approximately 12 blocks, final destination 2 blocks from the point of origin. A poetic and symbolic act of retracing the footsteps of so many, returning with greater understanding and heightened consciousness. For groups of 6 or more ask about custom dates and times.

A very interesting and nice walking tour. Our guide has been living there for so many years, that he knows every corner and people in the neighbourhood; he was a real guy, historian and artist that lived through all of it, the best to show you around. Culture, architecture, history, anecdotes, really helps you to understand the summer of love phenomenon. We really recommend this tour.

My daughters and I decided to take a trip to San Francisco. They'd been several times when they were younger, but neither have too many memories from the past trips. We decided to take the Haight Ashbury Tour and really enjoyed ourselves. It felt like a walk down memory lane and we were able to envision "The Summer of Love". Stan was great, very personable with a wealth of knowledge about Haight Ashbury history. Such an energetic vibe in Haight Ashbury and Stan was funny and an obvious "grown up hippy" which made the tour even more delightful. The tour was long, but not the least bit boring or tedious. Even when the tour was over, we spent the rest of the day and into the evening browsing the shops, snapping pictures and enjoying a lovely neighborhood Italian restaurant (the name of the restaurant escapes me). Thanks Stan! We had a great time!

Our tour guide, Pam, was really good. We got to see all the highlights such as Janis Joplin’s house, the Grateful Dead house, and the Hell’s Angels’ house across the street. She also talked about architecture and the general environment in the Haight during the 60’s. The most fascinating part, however, was Pam’s own personal story of her family and migration to the Haight in 1967 at age 13. I would highly recommend booking Pam as she can tell personal stories of living in the Haight since the Summer of Love. And she recommended a great place for lunch…Cha Cha Cha. Try the paella and sangria! Yummy!

This walking tour of Haight Ashbury is a trip back in time to the Summer of Love and points in between. Highly recommend this tour to Deadheads, hippies and any history buffs interested in the youth movement and counterculture of the 1960s. My tour guide Stan brought the history of the neighborhood to life with his deep knowledge, humor and insight, as well as his connections to the current residents who make Haight Ashbury their home. Don't miss this unique opportunity to experience it!

Our guide Pam is authentic. Pam was one of many who helped bring about positive changes stemming from The Haight. She’s lived in the neighborhood for decades.
The walking tour is interesting and informative. Visiting the museum at tours’ end inside her beautiful home was amazing. Housing objects, art & photography collected by her is jaw-dropping.
I booked Pam’s tour in order to ‘open’ my 18yo grandson’s mind, hoping he’d see that the ‘collective’ can and did make changes for the better.

One of the best neighborhoods in San Francisco by day. Hippy shops all over the streets, good atmosphere. At night I do not recommend it since the day we went we had a few beers and at night it gives a little scare

Pam was a fantastic tour guide! Ask for her. She has lived in the Haight for 50 years and has had so many experiences before and after the Summer of Love and so many years after that. She made this tour so much fun.

My husband and I had such a wonderful time on our walking tour with Pam! She is a fount of knowledge and we really enjoyed her insight into Haight-Ashbury’s psychedelic history. The tour was a perfect distance and pace— Pam stopped often along the way so you could really listen and absorb what she shared. It was also neat to be the only two on the tour (Tuesday morning), so we were able to ask questions and interact more easily than what you’d typically expect of a guided tour! Pam is a great representative of the neighborhood and its community-driven values. She was a celebrity on the streets :)

Stan is a history buff and a student of the Counterculture who has lived and worked in the Haight for four decades and has become a neighborhood institution. He has both an encyclopedic and workingman’s knowledge of the Haight’s history and culture and loves sharing it.
In short, this is what every neighborhood walking tour should be.

We spent a very enjoyable and insightful couple of hours with tour guide Stan Flourride wandering round the back streets of Haight Ashbury soaking up the amazing history and counter culture of the area. Stan was very well informed and a great historian who was willing to share his knowledge. Highly recommend this tour.

Izu, she gone, is she.... I am so sad and broken! can you tell me please what happened and how to honor her,
thank you
Written March 7, 2020
I guess the best way to honor her is recommend and remind the walking tour. I took it recently for a second time in 15 years, now with Stan and he’s also such a nice guy, informed, historian and who has been living in the quarters for several decades, he knows everything, everywhere and everyone.Let’s remember all the good times we have had with the tour both guides and us tourists. .

I did this tour about a month ago and it went for about 2 hours. The guide was very willing to answer any questions and took the time to let me take it all in so I got the impression that the timeframe is pretty relaxed.

Hi, we are travelling from the UK and want to book this tour on 10th August. There are 2 of us, can I book it and pay in cash as the on line booking system isn't secure from here? Thanks, Kim

Hello,
You should be able to pay on the spot in cash. It isn't a very formal set up.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

I am very curious about the tour. How much does it cost per person? Do you have yours available today? What time? Where?
Written October 15, 2017
Hello and apologies I missed this 9 days ago when you asked.
It is $20/person and not sure which day you actually wrote but we DO go each Tuesday & Saturday at 10:30am and Friday @ 2pm, unless on the rare occasion we have not met our minimum.
Best, Pam

I took the tour back in May. I just checked my receipt and it was $21.20. We met by the McDonald's by the Stanyan Park Hotel. 750 Stayan St. In Haight Ashbury. I think it cost about 6-8 bucks to take Uber from Bart, as I was staying in Berkley. I travelled from Florida and didn't know the area at all but had no problems. There is no close BART station fyi. The tour was well worth it and I have recommended it before. Stan Flouride was our tour guide, he was knowledgable (lived in the area), funny and overall entertaining. They have a minimun for people attending to do the tour but we were a small group and had no issue. For 20.00 you can't beat it.

Sounds very interesting. What is the tour schedule for this week Wednesday through Friday? Cost for 2? Would we meet up at the corner of Haight and Ashbury? We are staying by Union Square.
Thanks,
John
