Made a couple trips to Mt. Tapochao during our stay. One was a nice clear day and we were able to see most of the island. There are informative boards talking about the WWII Battle for the island with references to what you are seeing...More

The road to the top is not paved, but is in fair shape; we did it in a toyota corolla without any problems. You can see the whole island from the viewpoint. There are some interpretative signs discussing the stages of the battle for Saipan

I actually just stumbled up to Mt. Tapochao while driving around the island...what a pleasant surprise! Definitely worth the drive - I made it up in a small sedan (it was a bumpy ride, but it's possible!) Lots of WW2 History to read about up...More

Absolutely worth the drive BUT don't bring a sports car or a small car on the road up the mountain. It is a very rough ride. You need a truck or an SUV. But the view!!!! Don't miss it!

The road up to the top may be a tad intimidating for a mainlander but it is well worth it. The 360 degree view of the island is SO worth it. Just beautiful and inspiring to see the sparkling water surrounding this gorgeous island.

Great view - you can see almost the entire island from here. Before heading up the mountain, take a look at it from a distance. Sometimes weather at the top is different than at the bottom - need to go when it is not dark...More

The absolute best view of the island geographically. From this perch you can see the initial advantage the Japanese had in the campaign, however as the tables turned the absolute futility of their efforts were staring the right in the face.

It was a sunny day and we drove all the way up top. The air was hot and humid, the sun was burning, but still, it’s worth a visit. The view from the top of the island is fabulous. This place is a must-go if...More

The drive up was long and bumpy. (Anywhere worth seeing in Saipan has unpaved, rutted roads, but this was an especially long stretch of bad road.) However, once you get there, the view is amazing. You can see all sides, the whole island. Very Cool....More

Rented a RAV4 and took some of the less traveled routes to get there. We made it but would recommend taking the main routes and a larger/heavier SUV. Prepared to get tossed around a little and if you get car sickness perhaps not the best...More

Yes. I suggest a Jeep type vehicle. We had a Corolla and did it a couple times, but road is very very rough. Take it easy if you rent a car.
