Bob's Antietam tour was exactly what we needed for our family's first visit to the battlefield. We took a 4 hour tour, and I believe that was enough time to get a good overview of the events that transpired during the Maryland campaign, with the greatest detail paid to its culmination at the Battle of Sharpsburg. Bob had his work... More

My husband recently learned that one of his ancestors fought on this battlefield and was wounded so we booked 2 rooms at The Inn at Antietam(wonderful place and owners). Miriam, one of the owners of the inn, recommended Bob as a tour guide and we are so glad she did. Bob took us to the parts of the battlefield where... More

I took a friend to tour both Sharpsburg and Gettysburg battlefields, as well as to see the luminary display at Sharpsburg. I was quite comfortable with my own knowledge of the batttles and fields for those, but not nearly so for South Mountain. I contacted Bob a little over a week out, about a tour of South Mountain. He was... More

Bob Martin started the history tour with a geography lesson, explaining just how the battle of Antietam came to be in this sleepy little backwater of Maryland. That set the stage for 4 hours of an interesting, moving and enjoyable step back in time. As my friend, Tom, and I stood solemnly looking at the Bloody Lane, a tour bus... More

We spent 3 hours with Bob, touring the battlefield and getting a comprehensive overview of the events as they unfolded. Bob was extremely knowledgeable and we had a great experience with him. It is well worth the money to have an expert providing a detailed background of the events that shaped this period of our nation's history. I highly recommend... More

We just spent the day with John Murphy who truly brought the history of the battle and times to life. Not being a huge civil war buff myself - I found myself truly interested in the stories and descriptions John provided. He also mixed in a bit of humor which made the tour very fun. John drove our car and... More

Highly recommended. Per our request for an extended tour we went from Harper's Ferry to South Mountain to Antietam Battlefield. My husband has read extensively about the civil war. My knowledge is very limited. Bob was able to fashion the tour to keep both of us interested throughout the tour and we both learned a lot. His knowledge of the... More

We visited Antietam with a keen interest in the history leading up to this battle. Bob Murphy was a wonderful guide. He was loaded with information - helping us to see what led to the battle of Antietam, then what happened on that fateful day, and what ensued in the next few days. We enjoyed a 3 hour conversation with... More

I guess you can see the battlefield at Antiedam without Bob Murphy as I have before but I don't know why you would ? My 16 year old son and I visted Sharpsburg April 1-3 2016. We found Bob on trip adviser and I couldn't be happier ! Bob is a longtime resident of Sharpsburg who moved here out of... More
