Overview
More
From the prominence of Dead Horse Point, 2,000 feet above a gooseneck in the Colorado River, an ever changing landscape unfurls. Immense vertical cliffs meet with canyons carved by ice, water and wind creating a visual masterpiece. Plants and animals surviving on the edge of existence face many challenges of extreme conditions within this high desert environment. Stories of ancient hunters, resting along the cliff tops while knapping chert in preparation for the next hunt, and cowboys of the late 1800's, chasing wild mustangs onto Dead Horse Point, using the narrow neck to block off the natural corral . Rangers and guides suggested watching the sun set from Dead Horse Point, so we headed there after our day at Island In The Sky, Canyonlands. It's just a short walk from the parking lot to the overlook, with the Colorado River 2000 feet below in...More

It was a nice stop while driving to the Island in the Sky, just one advice drive to the end of the park, through the Visitor center and you will get this best view at the end. We walked the trail from the visitor center...More

We came here specifically to see a beautiful sunset. Well, it rained about 30 minutes beforehand and chased a lot of people away. They missed out. While the clouds obscured the sunset, the rain brought the most amazing, bright rainbow any of us had ever...More

I had a great time at this state park with my family. I only cost us $10 a car to get in. We really enjoyed the views of Canyonlands National Park while there.

Even if you are just passing by, this is a wonderful place to pull off the road to survey the big, I mean really BIG, surroundings. Get out your maps and binoculars. Teach the kids some geography. But be prepared: it can get really windy...More

The views from the visitor center and from Dead Horse Point were beautiful. This was the first place we visited from Moab, and it was a great way to start the trip.

Loved this park! The views of the layers were jaw dropping. The hikes were relatively short and easy, perfect for families or older people who are limited in their mobility.

One afternoon in Dead Horse. Be warned, there’s an oil plant at the entrance and within the park, there is a fertiliser distillation plant. Deeply disappointing environment-wise. Beautiful if you turn your head and camera... More

Its going to be between Moab and Bryce. They are different. Moab has Arches, Colorado river . Bryce has the Hoo Doos and beautiful scenery. Both are great for hiking or just short walk views.

Usually campsites are relatively easy to come by. A little harder to book are the yurts. The later in the fall you come the more available. This is an amazing park and area, have fun
