After leaving Arches and upper Canyonlands at Moab headed to Monument Valley, I stopped at the turn off to the Needles Overlook. Despite the 44 mile round trip diversion to get to the overlook, the drive was worth it given the very few people that...More

A very long drive but once you get there and if you aren't afraid of heights it's amazing! Incredible views of Canyonlands, spires, walls and other things...all from above. The 'Six Shooters' are incredible. A definite must do!

Worth the trip. Two outstanding views looking in different directions, will take your breath away. And little one just stare in awe. Almost always beautiful weather.

Not too far off the beaten path but very far off the beaten path. Incredible vista and a fun area to walk around and plan a picnic at one of the tables. Just keep an eye on your kids as there are many areas for...More

Well worth the detour and multiple cattle grids! You will think you are in the middle of nowhere (just like driving to the rims of the Grand Canyon) until you get the big reveal at the end. Stunning views and very quiet. There are two...More

A paved road leads west for 20 miles from the main highway (US 191), ending at a high bluff, with distant views of rugged landscape, including parts of Canyonlands National Park. A very nice, large, uncrowded picnic area has been designed, with good pathways leading...More

We decided to be adventurous and wander off the highway to visit the Needles Overlook on our way from Mesa Verde, CO to Moab, UT. It was quite a ways off the highway maybe 20 miles, but took about 45 minutes. Once we got to...More

Travelling from Moab down to the southern Canyonlands entrance the trip to Needles Overlook involves a 44 mile detour before you can resume your journey South again. Whether it is worth it or not depends on your point of view. The outlook is stunning, everything...More

I have an Outback. It was more than sufficient for anyplace we wanted to go offroad. To navigate the really tough areas, you would need not only a high clearance 4-wheel drive but also expertise in navigating tricky... More
