It took us about 3 hours to drive down there from Memphis, due to traffic in Memphis. It is out of the way with no signs until you get much closer to Gillett. Arkansas Post was to be a staging point for the Mississippi River trade between New France and the Gulf of Mexico. However, there are no original buildings... More

Six flagpoles greet you as you approach the Visitors Center of the Arkansas Post National Memorial, a short distance south of Gillett AR. They represent the six nations that flew over the post since it was the first European settlement in the Lower Mississippi Valley. This is an area you'll enjoy.

My husband and I spent an afternoon that we had been staying in Little Rock to travel down to this NPS site about an hour and a half a way so that we could check it off our National Parks Passport without needing to plan an additional trip to this part of Arkansas in the future. I wasn't sure what... More

We really enjoyed our trip to Arkansas Post - the original territorial capitol of Arkansas, the only Revolutionary battle site in Arkansas and the scene of a devastating Civil War battle. Watch the film then walk the grounds -be sure to visit what is left of the Civil War trenches.

This is a wonderful piece of history! Wow, what an Arkansas treasure. Gabrielle and Kary were wonderful to us. Be sure to stop and chat with these park rangers. The video is a must see so do plan twenty minutes of time to pay attention to it. It's very welcoming to young children with activities set up for them and... More

I visited this site with my 3 boys, ages 14, 10, and 6 in a hot July afternoon. We are always impressed with what a great job the National Park Service does, and this Memorial Park was no different. It's a beautiful park with so much history. We watched the very well-done informational video in the Visitor Center. The Park... More

It took us a little bit to get to this place but we made it and I'm glad we did to! The Rangers were very knowledgeable and informative!! They even took time out to work with my 3 year old on the Junior Ranger program as well!! There was a lot to see and do here but we ran out... More

As you travel from Little Rock to Hot Springs National Park, be sure to visit this site in eastern Arkansas. The ranger we had was thrilled to discuss the area and took all the time we wanted helping us to enjoy the area. The place is beautiful and with its location near other historical site it is well worth what... More

Occupied by French, Spanish, Quapaw, English and then a Civil war battlefield on land and water. Alligators, Deer, birds and great natural beauty....this is a place of past historyn exploration and life in North America that should be explored and cherished by the world. A visit here is quite a special time.

I had never heard of this location but was determined to get there this trip. Ranger staff was great and extremely helpful. Movie was 18 minutes and was very informative and a must-see to get a sense of the history behind AP. Smallish VC and not really doesn't offer a gift shop. The museum is small but very informative. Not... More
