On a recent trip to DC we walked the Potomac Heritage Trail. It was a beautiful hike along the Potomac river. It was not very challenging so really good for the entire family.

Scenic and relaxing experience when you don't have time in a busy work schedule to really get far away from it all. Appreciate the wonders of nature in your own backyard.

The Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail is a wonderful trail in Virginia. It also links with many other trails in the region. The trail is a long trail along the Potomac River. There are many portions of the trail for various purposes such as jogging,...More

I walked from Rosslyn where the trail starts to Fort Marcy and back along the C&O canal to Georgetown. I met only one jogger on the first quite open stretch and no one afterwards until I got to Chain Bridge. The trail starting easy gets...More

Along the Potomac banks completely out of sight of civilization but inside the Washington Beltway. No easy exits once you get on, so be prepared to go at least three miles.

This is an interesting trail and you certainly don't have to do all 10 miles to enjoy it. It follows the Potomac River for a while then climbs a few bluffs. You then find yourself walking along the George Washington Memorial Parkway then back into...More

We have seen the prettier sections, but we hiked on a really primitive part of the trail to the East of Theodore Roosevelt Island. Dirt tracks next to the river and picnics on rocks in the river. We found it through Windy Run Park -...More

There's a small parking lot up Glebe Road (Chain Bridge turns into Glebe) on the right. It holds about 8-10 cars. You can also park in the neighborhood and walk down but that's a bit farther.
