I have read a lot of history including information on Sacajawea and Louis and Clark. This fort has been mentioned many times as places visited by historic figures so I went a bit out of the way to see it. Not much traffic there which...More

Bents Old Fort is truly a special place. We came late in the fall and crouds are non existent. The staff is great with kids. The self guilded tour is a lot of fun. Hope to return.

Although it seems as if it's out in the middle of nowhere, this National Park site is well worth a visit. The historians/re-enactors are very knowledgeable about every aspect of this old fort, its people, and its purpose. Their stories are interesting and informative and...More

Stopped here on a whim for a break in a trip from Wichita to Colorado Springs. This place is really worth a look and is a genuine piece of history; a far better representation of the 1880's than the shows in Dodge City (and you...More

Incredible re-creation of the fort. Such attention to little details! The worker / volunteer who talked with us played the role of a Mexicano and was very convincing in costume and speech. Nice gift shop. Good restrooms in spite of rustic nature of fort, yet...More

Very enjoyable. Beautiful views of the surrounding landscape. Interesting look at life in that time period. Both kids really enjoyed it as well.

It is about 10 miles from La Junta to Bent's Old Fort. The roads are paved and well maintained.
