American artist/photographer Clyde Butcher had the vision to buy 13 acres in Big Cypress Swamp - and you can experience it, too. The Swamp Walk (or the longer Photographer's Walk) 'in" Big Cypress Swamp (yes, you're walkin' IN the water), smack dab in the middle of the Everglades (between Naples/Venice and Miami on the Tamiami Trail), is amid alligators, water moccasins and in the bosom of nature - it is not to be missed! This is a "bucket list" check-off. Treat yourself to a night or two at the Bungalow, if in season crack fresh stone crabs from Grimm's (Everglades City) and eat under the chickee, and chill listening to the sounds of the swamp. The next morning when you're sipping coffee and looking out the second-floor window, you'll see the resident alligator glide effortlessly into the swamp pond. Before you get the bagels out of the toaster, the gator has moved on into the darkness and magic of the swamp, and you're there left to marvel at the beauty of the primordial cypress trees, moss and birds that surround you.

Clyde Butcher spent his life chronicling the sights both flora and fauna of the Everglades as well as other places around the globe. Even if you have no intention of purchasing a print of his work, this is high end stuff, just to see the artistry both he and his wife drew out of nature and everyday scenes is amazing.... More

A world renown black and white photographer has a studio out in the middle of the swamp. Clyde Butcher and his wife have traveled extensively photographing sites in the National Parks, but in Florida they are better known for photos of the swamps, i.e., the Everglades. The gallery is small and easy to miss, know that it is located near... More

Thank you for your comments. Clyde Butcher's compelling black and white photograghs chronicle some of America's most beautiful and complex ecosystems. The exquisite beauty and depth of his work draws the viewer into a relationship with nature. For more than forty years he has been preserving the untouched areas of the landscape on film using 8X10",11X14" or 12X20" view camera.... More

After years of driving thru the Big Cypress in the Everglades here in Florida, finally made a stop at Clyde Butcher's Gallery. It was wonderful.....beautiful nature photography of the Everglades. There are 2 cottages you can rent and swamp nature walks are also available. Would recommend a stop here on your next visit thru the Everglades.

We called in to the gallery on the recommendation of a ranger. It was a special event at the gallery. Displaying Clyde's pictures to celebrate the Parks 100th birthday. Clyde's beautiful, huge black and white pictures were on show. There was a violinist playing. Clyde was there to sign books and meet his fans. A photographic group arrived to speak... More

This gallery is located along Route 41, Tamiami Trail. It looks small from the outside but inside you will find some of the amazing large format photographs. Most are of the cypress swamp but he also has photos from other popular parks in America. The swamp beside the parking lot is typical of a cypress swamp. On the two days... More
