I liked walking around and reading about the different sites around the town. A couple of the places on the tour were a bit hard to find.

We parked at Pack Square. Street meter parking to commence the Urban Trail. Visited the Visitor Center for a map and a pocket full of quarters to feed the parking meters. The map was so confusing that we eventually used our car to find "locations" identified on the tour. It was Veterans Day so some of the sites, (Thomas Wolfe... More

We done this over the summer and enjoyed walking around trying to find the statues. We could not find a map to show us where they were since this was a spur of the moment trip. Asheville is a fun place but I am amazed at the number of homeless on the streets looking for money.

I love sculptures (not statues) in public spaces, so the urban trail in Asheville was a perfect fit for me. The scavenger hunt made it fun and interesting, even though I did not find all 30 sculptures. Among my favorites were "Crossroads" (pigs and turkeys being taken to southern markets from Tennessee), "Flat Iron Architecture" (a giant flat iron reflecting... More

Read about this in the AAA Tourbook and got our map from the downtown Visitors' Center where we were right across from some of the sites. It is a self-guided 1.7 mile walking tour of 30 downtown Asheville sites. The locations are numbered and as part of a public arts program there are brass plaques which tell the history and... More

Nice walk in downtown Asheville. Art gallery is a nice place to visit. Shoppers will find the place interesting.

We actually saw the art before realizing it was part of a public art trail. We picked up a brochure and map and were happy to make our way around Asheville admiring art and learning a bit about the city's history. The trail is broken up into several categories/periods (Frontier Period, Gilded Age, Times of Thomas Wolfe, Era of Civic... More

The Urban Trail was a little disappointing, although it is nice to have a self-guided walking tour through the city. I thought there would be more sculptures, but it's mostly plaques in the sidewalk. We ended up not doing the entire course, so I can't speak to the entire walk.

Stop by the Visitor's Center and pick up a map for the Urban Trail. It is an excellent resource for your self-guided tour. The sculptures and plaques throughout the city are a delight to discover and the descriptive guide gives you insight to their meaning. The trail is supposed to give you an overview of the development of the city... More

We just happened upon these works of art while wandering around downtown Asheville. I didn't know there was a name for these sculptures! The cat walk was a different way to display art. They had one stretching on the ground, one on top of a short wall & another up a light pole. The little girl at the drinking fountain... More
