A Winter's Tale, not one of the Bards best, but was a really great production in the hands of the Montford Park Players and Warren Wilson. Young fresh takes on Shakespeare. The price is a bargain/

They are THE BEST! They give me great joy every summer! I can't wait for the program to come out and set my schedule around the plays. I must admit I am partial to the comedies. I have had enough tragedies to study in my college days and even act in. But Every year, this troop gets better and better... More

Remarkable that a community the size of Asheville can support these free summer/winter productions. Professional effort goes into the plays (mostly Shakespeare) but variations in the quality of the acting are quite noticeable. They don't do any 'editing' of the plays, so go prepared to hear every line in the original. Pay heed to advice in other postings about the... More

This was so much fun!! The nicely done outdoor amphitheater was the perfect setting for their upbeat interpretation of The Taming of the Shrew. They started out with a great dance number and then did a super job on the play. On top of that, where else are you going to see Shakespeare for free?!

Very cool, outdoor theater where you can bring your own bites and drinks to enjoy a night of theater under the stars. And did I mention that it is FREE !!! They do come around with a donation basket but that's completely voluntary. Since we were out of town, we did spring for the $3 VIP reservation, which provided us... More

Saw the Montford Park Players in 1976 and was amazed. Unbelieveably I met Butch Guice of commic book fame and Lewis Grizzard, deceased, a famous hummorist for the Atlanta Journal.

Every fall I visit friends in Asheville, and for the last four years, we have scheduled the visit around one of these plays. I cannot tell you how great this experience is: sitting outside, packing a picnic and watching a truly great performance of a Shakespeare play for free! (Please bring cash for a donation at intermission when they pass... More
