This is a beautiful lake. It’s also a Private Lake and they have rules in order to keep the area and the lake clean and safe. I appreciate that, so many surrounding areas of Asheville have become less safe to walk alone and unfortunately filled with drug addiction in many parks. This lake manages to keep that out. The lake Warden takes their job seriously as they should..

This is a great walk if you want to stroll, take pictures of the lake, or run. It is an easy path but can be long depending on how much of it you choose to do.

So Billy is still the person who manages the lake and I have had nothing but positive interactions with him. Look I am a hardcore feminist who takes sh** from no one but I found him professional and helpful.
I can tell you as I was talking to him, my third positive interaction, he asked someone if their dog was licensed. Wow, did he get a snotty reply. He stayed professional when frankly, I wouldn't have.
He is also right on top of vagrants who want to camp out which is why the lake is so safe.
People have to remember this is a PRIVATE lake in an entitled area. So when you are asked a simple question to assure you have abided by the rules just answer politely.
And no. I am not a resident, this is not my lake. I just make sure the people who work here and have ownership of this lake know my appreciation.

I would give 0 stars if it were an option. The so called “warden” rudely came up to me & my clients while taking photos of them- yelling at us saying that it was private property & that I couldn’t take photos there? He was very aggressive and not understanding at ALL. Not to mention that there are no signs stating that it’s private (& that you can’t take photos there).. I would understand the information but not the way it was given to me. I was attacked & embarrassed in-front of my clients. I will NEVER go here again, nor suggest anyone else go here.

Very rude lady, me and my brother were fishing and a lady came up to us and told us we had to wear a mask we said we have masks and will gladly put them on but she continued to yell and then went and told the warden. We were very polite and did not want to make a problem, little did we know she was in charge of the lake. I’m very upset my first experience at beaver lake was so negative and I was treated very rudely, we did not think we had to wear a mask when we are 100ft away from the closest person but when asked we complied and we’re still treated very rudely. Will not be fishing there from here on out. warden was very nice and explained to us everything we needed to know about the lake and apologized for the managers behavior but be on the look out for a lady with a poorly shaved little white dog as she will be very rude to you.

I went a few times with my girlfriend and kids. I had a great experience there! The lake is very nice and they have a bird sanctuary there. I was impressed on how the lake and grounds where maintained. We met the lake warden Billy and what a nice man. He maintains the grounds there also. Because of him, I would feel comfortable having my kids and girlfriend there without me. I cant say that about any other park/lake in the area. I have read the previous negative reviews and I had the exact opposite experience. Id say, make sure you read the rules before you go because they do have some about dogs and activities. Me and my family will be returning there for a nice evening outside by the lake.

Great place for a quiet walk. They have a path that goes completely around the lake for walking or jogging. Very tranquil.

Whoever is in charge of the "warden" needs to loose his job along with the warden. Nasty, mean, smart mouth. My husband asked what we did wrong he basically said your on private property you leave to leave. No sign post anywhere that stated private property or private Lake I hope this area falls on his face because if that's their representation they can put it where the Sun don't shine

We live in Asheville and after driving by Beaver Lake almost every day for many years we decided, on the spur of the moment, to take a walk around the lake. We parked in the small parking area at the head of the lake and started walking. As we walked through the boat storage area we were accosted by a gentleman who described himself as the Lake Warden and demanded to know what we were doing there. We replied that we were taking a walk, as many other people were in the unusually warm winter weather. He told us that it was a private park and that we were there illegally and that he had also observed that we were parked illegally in a private parking area. He told us we’d have to leave immediately. To put this in context, we are 78 and 74 and we live about a mile and a half from the park on the mountain that overlooks Beaver Lake and the Western Blue Ridge Mountains. When we returned to our car without having had our walk we looked in vain for any signage that we were parked in a private parking area. There was no such sign. The only sign read that the parking area closed at dark and this was hours before sunset. If I was the Lakeview Park HOA, the owners of Beaver Lake, I wouldn’t employ such a nasty, disrespectful and confrontational Lake Warden. I say that from the perspective of having been the elected two term President of a more than 900 home Southeastern HOA before moving to Asheville several years ago. It’s amazing to me that the Lakeview Park HOA encourages this type of unjustified behavior on the part of its employee. We were polite and non confrontational in our dealings with their employee, it’s to bad that they weren’t the same.

To the negative reviews- this is a private lake, and you must've been behaving poorly to get 'harassed' or fined. I've lived in Asheville most of my life, and never have had any trouble. Anyone can go for a walk or run here. Get a pass if you want to bring your dog, or you could be fined. It closes at dark, so you could be fined for trespassing. I only don't give it 5 stars because so much of it is walking on gravel, I just personally hate how that feels, and there a bits by the road that are annoying. Otherwise, it's a really lovely man-made lake! The bird sanctuary adjoining it is quite nice too (It's a quiet area, no runners).

Can you bring your own kayak and paddle on the lake or do you need a sticker or membership of some sort?

I have no idea because we just stopped for a short time to walk around. I googled the lake though and found some info for you but it won't allow me to submit my answer with the copy/paste inserted here. So just google BEAVER LAKE ASHEVILLE and you will find all the info you need about boating and the email address of the warden if you have other questions.
can you fish at this lake?

You have to have a permit, as well as walking a dog.

This "Barney Fife" of a fake ranger is a despicable human. He offered to remove the $50 per dog, per year fee, if she went out with him. He should be arrested or at the very least fired.

I totally agree with you about charging folks walking their dogs. It should be free if all the rules and conditions of Beaver Lake are respected and followed.

Is Billy still the warden at Beaver Lake? I'm new to the area and am considering paying the non-resident fees for kayaking and dog walking, but these fees are pretty high and I don't want to pay them if I'm going to be harassed or made to feel threatened when I visit the lake.

Read 2 reviews that were praising Billy Jenkins the lake Warden. I posted one of the reviews regarding Mr.Jenkins negative customer service interactions. I wanted to let you know that my encounter with him as a female was horrific. I was genuinely excited to enjoy the lake and pay any related fees. It was frightening at how quickly he verbally and non verbally escalated when I asked for clarification and assistance with understanding how to correctly use the lake. It's so wonderful that the lake is open to the public. It would be helpful to have Mr. Jenkins be consistently professional and courteous to ALL folks who visit the lake. I understand that experiences by property owners or local Asheville users has been positive. However, an unassuming tourist who visits the first time who wants to enjoy the area should have the same experience as you all do every time you see Mr.Jenkins. Folks who encounter him to receive clarification and who aren't owners or locals that grew up with him have a very different experience. Please don't downplay that. It's clearly documented in the reviews. I was 30 seconds away from calling Asheville PD on the day of my incident because I believed him capable of pushing me out of his office. I am sure you wouldn't want any female relative of yours to feel that way if they were visiting another city park in a different state. The local folks having all of these POSITIVE experiences with Billy shouldn't post these just to redirect and distract from the fact that Billy is harassing tourists. Tourists need to know prior to visiting.

Agreed. I am so sorry that you had that experience. That warden is a vile creature who should not be allowed to deal with the public for any reason. Let him mow and move on.
