I'm an art student and while I mindlessly enjoy any kind of art museum this one was not what I expected based on all the reviews about it. The building looks incredible from the outside and it has great views. Once we got in 3/4 floors were closed to install exhibits and their tickets were still 25$ while offering 10%... More

I come here each time when in Boston. At the moment one of their best exhibitions. It is now 10 years that the ICA is in this location at the waterfront. I remember that the first year it was a single building surrounded with many ugly parking lots (now gone). Next to it was the Restaurant Pier4 (now gone). Surrounded... More

Planning my 2-days trip to Boston i decided to visit ICA and one of the reasons - it has the great location and views and i also like the building itself. I cant say it has extraordinary exposition but i love the the space and surrounding territory and the view of the bay. There is a very nice shop inside... More

I cannot imagine how they can get the high level of talent and expertise to talk about and answer questions about the exhibits...and the exhibits change frequently. The food is pretty good and the gift shop is excellent.

Very avante-garde. Not enough "mainstream" modernists. Found some of the art disturbing and overly sexual. The building is gorgeous and there are some great spaces inside where one can sit and watch the activities in and around the harbor---a kind of evolving art.

We went to see the museum on a Sunday afternoon and paid $15 to park and $25 for tickets then got to the museum and 3/4 floors were closed to install exhibits. We did get two free return passes to come back, but we were visiting from far away so probably won't use them. The art is pretty strange, the... More

The building is not that impressive. From the inside you have a great view on Boston. The art collection is for those who like modern experimental art. So you have to be someone who likes this. The museumshop has not a standard choice and is interesting because of their different items. The walk in the direction of the museum is... More

This is a fine contemporary art museum, and i am sure someone who is really into art will find a lot to see and enjoy BUT after being in the MONA museum in Tasmania all other art galleries seem to be a bit 'put together' which i am sure that suits some but not us. I think its like a... More

I've visited the ICA regularly for several years. Depending on the special exhibits it can be an amazing experience or an expensive disappointment. The building is a fascinating design and the location provides fabulous views of the harbor.

Neighbourhood Profile
Seaport District / South Boston Waterfront
This area has been expanding and becoming more and more popular, for good reason. Not surprisingly, the seaport district of South Boston is located beautifully along the water. The area is designed for easy strolling along the HarborWalk, and there are bars and restaurants for all ages and budgets. The Institute of Contemporary Art is located in this area in a contemporary building with an absolutely stunning deck overlooking the water. In the summer time there are Friday music concerts on the deck of the museum. Nearby, there are many green spaces to enjoy.
