Neighbourhood: Downtown
The largest area of the city, Downtown is rich with historical and iconic sites in Boston. Stroll through one of Boston’s most famous green spaces, the Boston Public Gardens, check out and make way for duckling statues, picnic under a beautiful tree overlooking the pond, and walk over the iconic footbridge where, during summer time, you will catch a swan boat toting children and eager tourists through the pond. Have your camera ready to capture its peaceful beauty in the middle of a bustling city. Continue on through the Gardens and take in some open green space at the Boston Common, where you can spend time throwing a frisbee, sitting on a park bench, or, in the winter time, skating on the frog pond. Head north from the end of the Common to see the golden dome of the State House, and travel through government center to Quincy Market and Faneuil Hall, both a historic and popular destination worth a quick visit for a first time to Boston. Head to Long Wharf to visit the Aquarium, or catch a boat to Charlestown or even Cape Cod.

This is a lonely structure in a field devoid of landscaping. It looks destitute rather than inspiring a sense of grandeur.

This bandstand is in the Boston commons. It’s real close to the Embrace and soldiers and sailors monument. Worth taking a look while walking through.

This is one of the first things we saw when we started walking the park to Boston Common. It’s beautiful from the distance. We didn’t get too close so I was not able to capture more than one photo

After a delightful warm adult drink or two at Cheers we continued our winter walk across Boston common to the Parkman Bandstand located on the eastern edge of the common. It was built in 1912 from a design by Derby, Eastern & Shephard which is very similar to the Temple d'Amour at the Petit Trianon, Versailles, France. It became very was popular in 1922 for its annual colonial-themed puppet show, which ended in controversy in1942. The city restored the bandstand in 1996, replacing the terrazzo flooring, cleaning the granite base and marble columns and placing new cast stone on the dome, it is now a very popular place for concerts, rallies, and speeches.
TIP: A great place to pick nick in the summer.

This is a nice addition to the commons park, amongst the other statues that you'll find within the park.

One of the interesting attractions to see at Boston Common is the Parkman Bandstand. This structure was built in 1912 in honour of the first benefactor of Boston Common, George Francis Parkman.
The bandstand structure resembles a Greek temple, surrounded by doric style columns and toped with a shallow dome. It is simple yet neat monument that can be quickly seen and enjoyed when passing through the Boston Common.
Have a quick look if visiting the Boston Commons before making your way to other areas of the park to enjoy other monuments, pond and places to enjoy at the Boston Common.
