The striking "White Buffalo" sculpture outside offers an inkling of the interesting exhibits inside this museum, including a steam locomotive, a Southern Cheyenne teepee, one of the largest collections of prairie memorabilia in the U.S. and a hands-on children's area.

We especially enjoyed the World War I special exhibit -- I think I spent an hour going through just that exhibit. The clever approach of following one man's life before, during, and after WWI made the exhibit more personal and thus more interesting. Photos, memorabilia,...More

The Kansas Museum of History also houses the State Archives, and this was the reason for our visit in July 2017. I couldn't have been happier with the archives or with the archivists on site. They were helpful and attentive, and allowed me to do...More

It was a little unusual getting to the building. But well worth it. Totally doable in about an hour. Clean, cool and comfortable. You do not need a tour guide because each exhibit is well represented. It is based on a circle as you travel...More

Took the children for a day trip to the museum. History of Kansas from prehistory, up to 70's and 80's. Nice day trip. Not too big, and the have a large train in the museum the kids loved to walk up on, and through.

A great museum on Kansas history. Not real large, so quite doable in a couple hours. I like to read a lot so it usually takes me more than that. An eclectic collection of many items from Kansas history covering many years. We come here...More

This museum takes you through Kansas' history from pre-European contact to modern times. The exhibits are well-designed and informative. The models and dioramas are very well done. There is a train engine with 2 cars, a bi-plane, and many exhibits relating to Kansas' role in...More

The displays which change from time to time due to the sheer number of artifacts on hand are always interesting. My first visit was years ago while serving as a parental escort for a group of school children, or as a Scout Leader with a...More

I'm not exactly a historical person but the museum is local so I figured I'd take a look. The surrounding area is tranquil and well landscaped. The architecture is very classy My favorite part was the full size locomotive inside. They have lots of interesting...More
