Founded in 1916, the Zoo has been an icon in San Diego for nearly 100 years—and an absolute must-see in Southern California. Spend the day monkeying around in our tropical oasis as you visit beautiful habitats that are home to gorillas, eagles, tigers, sun bears, Asian leopards, rare reptiles, a palette of colorful birds, and more. Visit the Australian Outback to delight in our colony of 24 koalas, and travel along Panda Trek to experience giant pandas and other animals that share their bamboo forest habitat. Go back in time through Elephant Odyssey to discover what animals used to roam Southern California and see what the elephants are up to. Enjoy a guided tour on a double-decker bus or the scenic view from the Skyfari aerial tram, and dine in the peaceful surroundings of Albert's Restaurant. Discover the wonders of wildlife with animal encounters, interactive experiences, and keeper chats. A leader in animal care and conservation, the San Diego Zoo is at the heart of the San Diego experience.

Volunteers were helpful in suggesting to go on the tours offered in the park first. Then map out your day. Great advise. The tour guide gave a great overview of the zoo's layout.

I have been coming here since I was a child. My parents had a membership and we would visit both of the parks when relatives came to visit. Now, I still live in SD and visit the park frequently and take advantage of their other programs they have with my niece. The not only take care of their animals, but... More

Great zoo. Been a member since 3 years and been there a few times. Except for the huge lines for the panda enclosure, its excellent. They do great conservation work too. Rememeber, u need more than a day to cover the whole zoo!

My wife and I are in-between kids and grandchildren phase so really haven't been to a zoo in quite a while. We had a very pleasant 4-5 hours at SD Zoo which clearly could have been much longer if young ones were involved. It is very similar to Taronga Park in Sydney in that it is in a great location,... The walk thru the Zoo is pleasant amid green vegetation. Unlike other zoo's, you get to see many animals directly and relatively close, without the glass or wire wall. If you were to visit only one Zoo in the States, San Diego Zoo is it.

Lots of animals to see! Be prepared to spend the entire day. The park is quite hilly so there is a lot of walking. But, there are buses and trams to take you around if you don't mind waiting. The Holiday show was going on at night so we stayed for that, and I am glad we did. Lots of... More

We spent a day at San Diego zoo, arriving shortly after opening. The front gate staff was helpful, pleasant and quick getting us our annual pass cards. The zoo was beautiful and definitely a work out going up and down those hills!!! Volunteers and staff were on hand to answer any questions, and direct us to exhibit locations. Unfortunately we... Lions, tigers, zebras, giraffes, all kinds of snakes, so many scary lizards, the bear exhibit was impressive. A beautiful day with animals.

The San Diego Zoo should be on everyone's bucket list to visit. Children of all ages will be amazed by all of the animals there. We had visited the zoo a year ago on a hot day, and could not fully appreciate what was there. This year we went on a cool, drizzly day in February. The animals were active,... More

What really makes the San Diego Zoo special is the natural wooded setting visitors walk through while viewing the many exhibits. This completely outdoor environment is special in itself, and the animals feel so close and real. One of the goals of this organization is to save animals nearing extinction. Part of all proceeds are spent helping them worldwide. This... More
