Founded in 1916, the Zoo has been an icon in San Diego for nearly 100 years—and an absolute must-see in Southern California. Spend the day monkeying around in our tropical oasis as you visit beautiful habitats that are home to gorillas, eagles, tigers, sun bears, Asian leopards, rare reptiles, a palette of colorful birds, and more. Visit the Australian Outback to delight in our colony of 24 koalas, and travel along Panda Trek to experience giant pandas and other animals that share their bamboo forest habitat. Go back in time through Elephant Odyssey to discover what animals used to roam Southern California and see what the elephants are up to. Enjoy a guided tour on a double-decker bus or the scenic view from the Skyfari aerial tram, and dine in the peaceful surroundings of Albert's Restaurant. Discover the wonders of wildlife with animal encounters, interactive experiences, and keeper chats. A leader in animal care and conservation, the San Diego Zoo is at the heart of the San Diego experience.

Best Zoo I have ever been to!

Was primarily in SD for jiu jitsu but on a rest day checked out the famous Zoo and I was hugely impressed, easily the best zoo I have ever been to.

Amazing place, loved it even if the polar bears were in hiding, have a great variety of animals from across the globe. Really a must see.

The San Diego Zoo is first class. It is really well done, and our family thoroughly enjoyed our visit there. The polar bears and penguins were big hits with our family. And the elephants, big cats and monkeys were also terrific. The Skyfari aerial tram system gave us a great overhead view of the entire facility. We highly recommend it,... More

There really is a lot to do here. We are members because it is too much to try to do everything in one day and really appreciate it. If you are visiting for a day ask someone at the customer service desk which areas are under construction so you can maximize your visit. The staff is really helpful and some... More

Had heard so much about the great Zoo in San Diego but must say it didn't measure up to its reputation. It was clean, pretty well organized and welcoming but the animal enclosures were much smaller than we had expected and that is the cause of my disappointment . Having grown up in Kenya and having seen these very animals in... More

We visited this zoo recently and it was one of the most wonderful zoos I have been to. The layout is great and it is very big. The zoo staff was very kind and helpful. The nice weather helps with the animals being out and about. I highly recommend visiting here to anyone who visits San Diego.

I think that the zoo is living off a 30 year old reputation. The staff were very friendly, but the overall experience wasn't particularly great for us. Cages felt like cages for the most part, and not terribly spacious for large wild animals. I wasn't a fan of seeing a zebra do tricks for treats, personally - nothing natural about... More

2 Adults, 0 children on vacation from the East Coast We decided to spend a little extra and take the tour, Early Morning with Pandas. We were greeted by our guide, Brianna, and whisked into the zoo before the park opened. 6 of us (combined with a family of 4 with 2 young children) spent the next 2 and a... More

While in the city we had to visit one of the country's foremost zoos and animal conservationists. Seeing the pandas was a rare treat, as well as some of the more interesting animals of the world. We loved how tropical the vegetation around the zoo was and the cheetah companion program. We went on a Monday which provided a lighter... More
