Plaza del Pasado in Old Town San Diego State Historic Park brings San Diego's early history to life. The four-acre plaza sits at the center of San Diego's original Mexican pueblo, founded in 1821, which eventually grew into a bustling American town. Strolling storytellers in period costume, live Mariachi bands singing crowd-pleasing rendition of "Oye Como Va" by Santana, local artisans demonstrating glass blowing, shopping, and restaurants inspired by 19th century San Diego life.

Neat, Mexican themed shopping area in Old Town Museum area. There are plenty of shops with Mexican import items, as well as other specialty items. Many of the people employed at the shop wear period and ethnic costumes, which adds to the experience.

We arrived at 9 pm not knowing this is a place to visit in the daytime. Most of the shops were closed or closing with only a few restaurants on the Main Street open. If you can't go during the day you can go during...More
