Took our grand daughters to the pre Halloween week production based on sister witches. Parking for the second show of the day was a breeze, i.e. close by, which we appreciated with a stroller and an elderly grand dad. The staff was welcoming. The puppeteer was a bit too lengthy in her introductory remarks, but the show was charming and... More

My daughter and I had her 4 (ages 6-8) and decided to go to Balboa park for the day on Sunday. We went to the puppet show at 11 AM. For $5 each ($4 for seniors), we had a fun-filled time. It was evident that the performers loved entertaining children. There is no assigned seating, but there were plenty of... More

Take your children, grandchildren, neighbors kids, co workers kids, keep this art form alive. We live in an instant world of iPads, Internet, movies. Keep theatre, drama, poetry alive. My kids loved this, I loved it. My husband fell asleep snoring (front row too, how embarrassing) It was quaint and nostalgic for me. Hubby asked me later if he missed... More

Not sure what I was expecting but found the whole experience really quaint. The theatre is quite old and some of the puppets look like they have seen better days. The puppeteer is visible the whole time and the narration is recorded. The older children in the audience seemed to enjoy it so that's the most important thing. Think my... More

This is a nice thing to do with young children. The puppet shows are aimed at their level. They have a nice facility for doing this. If your child is having a birthday, be sure to tell the ticket booth staff as they have a nice celebration for the child before the show begins.

We were at balboa park and trying to find something for the children to enjoy that didn't cost $20+ for a family of 4. We came the to the show, enjoyed and will go back. The prices have changed to $5/person, but is still cheeper then other puppets we've been to. The sound was not done well but the puppets... More

This puppet theater is a must see for all those visiting San Diego with kids as well as those interested in having an old fashioned wholesome puppet Show experience. This theater is a treasure in Balboa Park. It is wonderful to celebrate a birthday. The birthday Child has a special treat in store with a crown and small prize. Essential... More

The puppet theater in Balboa Park is a treasure. The theater is old and was built for the 1935 Exposition in the park. The Guild that operates the theater has worked very hard to update the sound and the lighting systems. They now have a lot of special effects that enhance the shows. The theater performs shows year round and... More

I recently volunteered at the Marie Hitchcock Puppet Theater in Balboa Park in San Diego as part of the Give a Day, Get a Disney Day promotion. This little gem is just right for families with children of preschool age to perhaps third grade who are visiting Balboa Park. It is tucked away in a building with a pueblo style... More

Great puppet theater that caters to preschool aged children. Anyone older will probably be bored.
