The Cabrillo National Monument sits in a beautiful park with views of mountains, cliffs, San Diego and the water. It is located on Point Loma . The monument and history are interesting, however the views and Vistas are outstanding. There is a lighthouse that you can tour and see what the life of a light keeper was like in the... More

Go here. $5 gets you into the park. National Registry/National Park. Stunning views of San Diego harbor, a nice gift shop, light house.

We are from the Midwest where we are not noted for our ocean views so the ocean fascinates me. The ocean views there are spectacular. The day we were there the ocean was so blue it looked like a postcard picture. We went through the museum and the souvenir shop which was interesting. I didn't make the trip to the... More

A wonderful national reserve on the Loma peninsula. The drive to the site is quite scenic and there are very poignant military graves on the approach road. We spent the entire day here. The entrance fee was waived as we had a UK disabled blue badge, but the $10 admission per car is very reasonable. As well as the Cabrillo... More

I am 39 and lived in Southern California my whole life. I had no idea this was even in San Diego. There is a light house nearby and a whole visitor center that you can tour. The views are spectacular! Going to come back again!

Cabrillo was the first European to set foot on the west coast of what is now the United States, he was looking for gold. The expedition claimed over 800 miles of coastline for Spain. His voyage added knowledge of landmarks, winds and currents. Start by first checking out the visitor center. If planning on checking out the tide pools be... More

Although easy to find on the map, Point Loma is hard to get to, and well worth the effort. The vistas allow spectacular views in all directions. The old Point Loma lighthouse is fun to visit and sheds light on our past. The lighthouse was closed in 1893 and restored by the WPA in the 1930s. If you bring binoculars,... More

The views from Cabrillo can't be beat! There is a nice (but steep!) hiking trail that is very pretty when the wildflowers are blooming in early spring. The museum is very small, but there is some interesting information.

While this is a monument to Juan Cabrillo sailing for the Spanish, there is also a lighthouse tour given by a member of the National Parks service. While the lighthouse is something of a restoration, it is interesting to see the lifestyle of the keeper of the lighthouse, as well the equipment used to keep sailing ships off the rocks... More

Be sure to take the time to drive out to Point Loma to see this. It's very historical and has great museum presentations. The staff does a really wonderful job. There was a tour for school children while we were there. The "guide" did such a great job we tagged along.
