Having visited various natural history museums we gave this one a shot. It was ok but most the fossils are cast replicas it is very educational on the species and extinct species that roamed the surrounding area.

The displays are well presented and informative, and there are plenty of well-informed, friendly docents who are willing to answer questions.
Recently went with my mom and 2 yr old son. He loved it! We were told that the dinosaur exhibit would be closing in a couple of days, and that the admittance charge was nearly double the regular admittance fee. We went for the exhibit...More
Interactive, surprising and fun for all ages. Exhibits invite you in. The information captures you. Great gift shop as well.
We saw this museum as part of the Balboa Park Explorer pass that I had purchased. By the way, I feel that I must put in a plug for purchasing an Explorer pass. If you are planning to visit several museums in seven consecutive days,...More
What a gem for our community! I took our twins when they were small and we did everything from just wandering leisurely through the myriad exhibits, to having them attend the summer camps (fun and educational) to enjoying the fabulous sessions with Ms Frizzle and...More
Adults and preschoolers in our party had a wonderful time. I appreciate the staff's attention to creating kid-friendly exhibits they can touch and interact with (especially in the temporary dino exhibit) and the playful spirit throughout the museum. It worked well to break-up the exhibit...More

I came here with my 11 and 13 yr old kids and they loved it! The dinosaur/prehistoric fossils were cool and so was the the San Diego Ecosystem exhibit. We also liked the skulls and inspiring people exhibits. The free Ocean Oasis movie was great...More
Family trip with cousins, aunts and uncles and this was popular with everyone! We bought the passes that let you go between any 5 of the museums in Balboa Park, which worked out great, but the Natural History Museum was the first stop!
